MX 17/18 Repository: The Minitube Thread

#1 Post by Stevo »

We now have Minitube 3.1 in the test repository, since changes in Youtube's upstream API have broken all earlier versions.
Minitube is a native YouTube client. With it you can watch YouTube videos in a new way: you type a keyword, Minitube gives you an endless video stream.

Minitube does not require the Flash Player.

Minitube is not about cloning the original YouTube web interface, it aims to create a new TV-like experience.

It's an alternative to our default SMTube. Since it uses libmpv, if you can get hardware-accelerated video decoding working in mpv, you will also get that in Minitube--I can watch even 4K Youtube video in it with no extra CPU cycles needed.

It's also in the main MX 19 repo, since we didn't need to do any other backports to support it, unlike in MX 17/18.
