We'd rather the user update to a more current kernel in our repository, or else use the Debian 4.9 kernel if they want the security updates in that long-term-support kernel.

I suggest simply removing old MX kernels (4.14, 4.15) from repos.

Except that would break stuff for people that still are using those kernels.

Hello Stevo,

4.14 and 4.15 MX Kernels are now so outdated. Without security support, I really think it would be wiser to remove them, since MX provides enough kernels choice (4.9, 4.19, Liquorix...).
Some distros (like Ubuntu or Deepin) stick to 4.15 kernel. Would it be technically possible to follow/package their kernel updates for MX ?
