Package request: MultiSystem thread ->EZ2B

It was something else. You cannot run multisystem as root, or as the normal user is set up in MX. The user has to be in the adm group for Multisystem to run which is not default for MX, but as MX is configured there's no reason not to do it.
So use the User Manager in MX-Tools to add your user to the adm group.
Download the latest Multisystem from the developer's site
http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot/d ... 29_all.deb
(Corrected link, thanks towwire)
and install it with gdebi-gtk (which launches when you click on the deb in the file manager).

BTW, there was no trouble at all running Multisysem-test-iso which runs iso files in VirtualBox (if you have it installed). It doesn't check for adm group.

I have never used this program. Since I understand you have used it extensively, try it out this way and let us know if there are any other problems running Multisystem on MX before we try to package it ourselves.

I have used/tried MultiSystem on Ubuntu years ago, but I don't think I stayed long enough to become proficient or understand it.
It seems more polished now.

It is much simpler to set up than EZ2Boot that I have been using for years.

Downloaded and installed the deb.
It only had 25 dependencies for me.
Installation only took a couple of minutes on my slow Hotspot data connection.

Installed on T430_64 bit.
Rebooted.
Best result using MS menu to format USB.

Drag n Drop didn't work for me,

so tried the button, which STOPPED with message:
"The terminal (VteTerminal) widget requires
a version of gtkdialog built with libvte."

No way to continue.

The link above does not work if clicked on. Here it is:
http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot/d ... 29_all.deb

The gtkdialog deb's can be found here:
http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot/d ... y-amd64/g/

I don't know if you want to get the deb and install and see if that makes it work?

You seem to be a lot braver than me. If it work's I may try it. I'm sure it might be better if one of the developers checked out all the files there.

Thanks, I'll fix the original link.

I didn't try the Test-iso but I will.

I originally tried the script first mentioned but it wasn't successful for me.

@towwire
I will download the deb in the link you posted to see if it fixes the error that I posted about above.
Opened the link, which gave a choice of several versions, so chose the newest,
downloaded, gtkdialog_0.8.3-2_amd64.deb and ran Gdebi on it with the resulting error:
"A later version is already installed."

So maybe the vte widget can be built to comply.
It apparently is conflicting with something l have.

Funny the dates for both deb's are the same. Where is the crazyone (sorry forgot the name) that asked for this?

I've built a working gtkdialog on 64bit. I'll build the 32bit and update the Main repo.
It's not a package in debian and the only MX application that depends on it, apt-notifier, works just fine with the minor change.

A gtkdialog package update should show up the next time the mirror you use updates.
After installing it I was able to use Multisystem to create a bootable thumbdrive.

So to recap, the Multisystem deb found at
http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot/d ... 29_all.deb
can now be made to work in MX-15 -> 18 if
a: gtkdialog is updated to 0.8.3-3 &
b: if the user is added to the adm group.

Cool. Thanks.
I'll try it when it's available in main.
Or in the morning.

I have a recent snapshot and good data backups; also,
MultiSystem has been around for quite a few years
so it probably won't blow up.

Wow, that was quick.
Got the updated gtkdialog and a couple of others.

Multisystem started, found the USB.
Well Drag'n'Drop didn't work but Copy & Paste did
so it's copying my antiX snapshot.
Will add an MX snapshot then see how they boot.

Thanks, Tim, for the serendipity. :)
Something I didn't know I wanted. ;)
I'll run some tests tomorrow.
It sure seems easier to manage from the GUI
than the Easy2Boot which works fine.
Really want to see how this functions.
They speak of Peristence?

NOTE: It even sets the US_AltGr keyboard I use.

And it runs fast on Qemu --faster than I've ever achieved. :p
