Of course, you are not Debian developer.
I am just trying to say, that this problem is repeatedly reported as a smartmontools package bug for very long time by many Debian/Ubuntu users. Eliminating the update-smart-drivedb script by Debian developers looks like a strange solution, even in a case, that from version 6.5 should all works well again.
