Ghost printer?
Ghost printer?
This is probably not necessarily an MX Linux issue, but here goes.
There seems to be a ghost/phantom printer installed called "print" that is forever in a "Rejecting Jobs" state and I can't get rid of it.
I've tried some things as outlined here but it's still there. And I don't want to turn off IPP because then our iPhones won't be able to find the printer to use Airprint. Also, disabling avahi turns off zero config features such that I can't get to my unRaid server with its hostname so that's not an option either.
I installed another "real" printer using a lpadmin command and that one works just fine.
Does anyone know how to remove this printer?

Re: Ghost printer?
Please run MX Tools/Quick System Info then simply right-click and paste into a reply. No need to copy/paste, just paste. Quick System Info copies the output to your clipboard for you, already formatted for posting in the forum. Also please tell us the brand and model number of your printer. Thanks.

Re: Ghost printer?
Sorry for the delay. Printer is a Lexmark XC2132 which is the same as a Lexmark CX510. If there's something related to the printer that's causing this, I can help. Note that I don't want to turn off any zero-config protocols because I need Airprint to work.

Re: Ghost printer?
Is the printer connected to your computer or is it a stand-alone network printer?

Re: Ghost printer?
Stand alone wired network printer on the same subnet as the wireless laptop running MX Linux.
From what I can tell, I think this whole thing has something to do with avahi and zero-config but I'm not familiar enough with it to figure it out. I think we might need some sort of selective zero-config discovery so that the system skips the printer but sees other things like resolving the hostname of my unRaid server. I think CUPS is adding this mystery printer.
FWIW, my "real" printer, named "printer", is added on a fresh install with this simple command:
But when I go to print, there's "printer" from the command above which works fine, and another called "print" that is always in a "Rejecting jobs" state.

Re: Ghost printer?
Is the ghost printer only showing within the print dialog or also within the (local) printer settings and within the printer cups-webintererface. I assume the ghost printer is only showing within some applications print dialog not within all, right?

Re: Ghost printer?
I think it's only certain apps.
I don't see it in CUPS admin nor Chrome or Gimp. But I see it Geany, Mousepad, Gnome Photos, Eclipse and others.
Wonder if it's a GTK thing?

Re: Ghost printer?
One question was: Do you see it within the local Printer Settings dialog?
Another is: Do you only see within MX, or does it also show within the other wireless clients?

Re: Ghost printer?
Not sure what you mean by "local print settings dialog" - can you elaborate?
I see this ghost printer in MX Linux and in Xubuntu 18.04 (on my daily driver machine).
