Bitwarden's appimage fails to run

#1 Post by philotux »

I have wanted to check out how Bitwarden's Linux client works, so I downloaded the appimage. I made it executable but double clicking on it won't get it started. Some Bitwarden processes do show up in the system Monitor but nothing shows up on the desktop.

Running it from a terminal produces the following:

Code: Select all

$ ./Bitwarden-1.12.0-x86_64.AppImage
zenity, kdialog, Xdialog missing. Skipping /tmp/.mount_BitwarCgUr6d/AppRun.
A JavaScript error occurred in the main process
Uncaught Exception:

    at Object.<anonymous> (/tmp/.mount_BitwarCgUr6d/resources/app.asar/node_modules/desktop-idle/index.js:3:3)
I don't know if the problem is at my end or there is something wrong with the appimage.

Appreciate your help.
TIA

Well the segment you quote does say 1) that 3 applications are missing, and 2) there is a seg fault (I guess). So I conclude that the problem is not on your end.

I see there is a flatpak version, you might try that via MX Package Installer
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

Thank you Jerry3904 for looking into this! Good to know that the problem is not on my end. And thanks for the tip on the flatpak application. I will have a look at it.

Hmm... maybe I should download the image again and see if it runs as it should. If it doesn't, then perhaps the problem is on my end after all.

Downloaded the appimage again. Same issue as per my OP. Postponing trying out Bitwarden for the moment.

Did you try the flatpak? I'm interested in seeing whether that works for you.

I tried running a set of tests (here and on other distro sites) on appimages. The response was underwhelming; I received one response from the manjaro site. My single respondant indicated that not all appimages work on all platforms. In other words of the appimages that worked for me not all worked for him (one did not).

That's helpful info, thanks. We need to get some user experiences with appimages on MX-18, and that's a good start.

I have wonderful success with LibreOffice-fresh and also successfully run (albeit much less frequently) Scrivener, Openshot, avidemux, and RawTherapee
