I did not have any problems with the deb package.
By the way installing MX again in English was a silly idea - did not help as could be expected but screwed my typing up (was to be expected).
I try your suggestion with the tar.
Getting a new SSD soon and will start all from zero and let you know.
Thank you all helping.
Problem to get xplanetFX to work
Re: Problem to get xplanetFX to work
Thank you all again.
I tried again and did not manage it. I give it a miss for now.
Sorry, I did not mean to waste your time.

Re: Problem to get xplanetFX to work
Due to internet problems will take one more week before I can continue.
Technicians could not fix it today, so I am only limping along.

Re: Problem to get xplanetFX to work
I too have had trouble with xplanetFX.
I tried it in Fluxbox and XCFE.
I can get a decent rendition of xplanet (older CLI version)-- but it is quite difficult setting up (though the man page is straightforward).
There is no dedicated man for the xplanetFX version.
The info from the archived information page for http://mein-neues-blog.de/xplanetfx/ is very difficult to understand. (YouTube videos about xplanetFX are provide some intriguing hints about the GUI controls, but not much more.)
When I run the GUI of xplanetFX, everything seems to work swimmingly-- however it never renders to X.
Here is a log of the last time I tried it:
I feel there is something very simple holding back the live wallpaper from working.
When I run the CLI xplanet, I must close idesk and wbar to make it render correctly. I can re-apply idesk, but the wbar background retains the memory of my last wallpaper. The memory of my last wallpaper is visible under my Fluxbox menu as well.
I could not run xplanet in XCFI, which became very messy looking. XplanetFX would not run either--at least the living wallpaper (everything looks great in the GUI app.
Sometimes the log complains, but it often appears working as it should. Simply, the wallpaper isn't rendered. (Again, it does under the CLI version xplanet.)
I would love to get the program to work. I love other X11 programs like xfishtank, oneko, xsnow, etc. (all work well for me.)
Any ideas? Anyone else play with xplanet and xplanetFX?
I would probably be happy with some simple scripts for xplanet. I've been running it with arguments like:

I diddled with the controls every which-way, and even reinstalled the .deb file for the project using the creator's repository (given at his archived blog) and GDebi-- which had no issues.04/19/2020 01:31:46 PM ###### xplanetFX starting render cycle ######

I would probably be happy with some simple scripts for xplanet. I've been running it with arguments like:
Code: Select all
xplanet -center +900+600 -latitude 31 -background "purple"
