Any Experience with PNY Flashdrive?

#1 Post by Redacted » Tue Aug 21, 2018 7:38 am

I am having bad luck with a new PNY USB flashdrive. Whether formatted in ext 4 or fat32.
Copy operations take hours, and then some don't even close out properly.
I do not have that problem with an older SanDisk.
I remember a Dolphin Oracle video where he uses one, and it seems to be ok.
But I also remember a few posts by richb, where he came to the conclusion his PNY was just defective.
I ask because my local electronics store now only carries PNY, and I don't want to waste money if every other one is defective.
Thanks for any comments/advice.

If it is still under warranty you should be able to exchange it. I'd try that first. Maybe you got a -what we call here- maandagmorgenmodel, a Monday morning version, meaning: works but ehhh just doesn't.

a Monday morning version, meaning: works but ehhh just doesn't.
 I needed a smile this morning. I'm going to start using that phrase.
Unfortunately I lost my receipt.
Well, unless something else is posted, since Jerry3904, D.O., and PondLife use them with no problem, I'm not going to fret, and just get a new one.
Thanks folks!

I have a 32Gb usb 3 PNY.
It would not work as live usb but did sort of if using as fat32. Was going to chuck it but for some reason I formatted it (full) on a windows pc. Since then it works 100% !!!! Had it for about 2 years now.
Can create live usb etc. without any issues.

I'm using 2 16GB PNY USB sticks. No problems. I used mx-live-usb-maker to create an image from an already running system.

I've got several PNY flash drives, some that I use for running live sessions, some that contain only data files and/or photos. None of these are more than 8 GB drives, but I don't recall having any problems with that brand. I keep GParted Live on a 4 GB PNY flash drive, and I have an 8 GB PNY flash drive that I carry with me each day on the job, for example.

Hello Redacted,

I've been using two 32G (usb2) PNY flashdrives on my Raspberry Pi for storage for about a year, no problems, they're still working today. Recently, I added a 64G (usb3) PNY flashdrive and it lasted only 6 weeks before failing.

Mixed bag. I have two older 64 bit USB 2 that have worked fine. I have a newer 64 bit 3.01 that works for data but not ISO's and another same spec PNY that works great for all uses.
