Hi there

Sounds like a router problem - turn router off for 10 min, then restart.

Restart your machine - MX will pick-up the router and connect immediately ...

Report back

Regards

Jack

Could the Ethernet NIC be disabled in the BIOS/UEFI settings?

Re: No Internet Connection

#19 Post by baldyeti »

so you were connected through cable when typing the above ?
Can you also post the result of ifconfig - your ethernet address should be 192.168.1.xyz.

Code: Select all

sudo ifconfig

sudo ping -c 3 192.168.1.1	# check we can talk to router

sudo ping -c 3 8.8.8.8 # check we can talk to google DNS server
Not sure about the 127.0.0.53 DNS - for me my router acts as DNS proxy, if that is the case for you too, it should then say 192.168.1.1
Alternatively you can use the public google DNS given above ( 8.8.8.8 ) . Normally i think network-manager is uspposed to generate the resolv.conf file but perhaps it got it wrong for you.
You can try changing that, preferably taking a copy or renaming the original file 1st

Also: did you boot using the default MX sysVinit grub entry, or the systemd option ?

Should I repair my installation mx linux??
Andra, as in post #5, it seems to me that there may be wrong settings in router.. So enter in the device settings (192.168.2.1 or ...168.1.1 generally..) .. I mean, first you need to be sure the user name and the password provided by the "Internet Service Provider" Company are entered correctly and other settings are ok.

You can also contact them (they'll test it remotely online and tell you if there's something technically , if there's signal or not and if you entered some required values correctly... how to.. )
__________________________

But if you say it works with any other device (another laptop or a smart phone etc..) or with any other distro, then of course it means no such technical issues...
