I think it is getting to the point that what's prohibitive regarding hardware specs is not the underlying system like MX, but all the apps. The browsers, namely Firefox and Chrome/Chromium are the 'ram killers' and a few of the heavier programs. That might be worth mentioning in the spec area, that the choice of apps will have the largest impact on the specs needed to run the system.

OK, I made my changes based on this thread and have uploaded the version that will be used to my GitHub repo:

https://github.com/jerry3904/mxum

That will be incorporated into the final version of the MX-18 Manual in another month or so (thinking of doing another Draft release part way through).

Yes--sorry, I should have mentioned that. Easiest way may be to install and use Meld, and have it compare the version I just uploaded with whatever version you used for your last translation.

Would love to see thoughts about recommended partion sizes... the images shows 20 and 40 GB roots...

Being a newcomer to Linux and wanting to have everything planned ahead of the transition from Windows, this issue has been driving me to tears.

What about recommended for 120 and 250 GB SSD? Guess these disc sizes would be most common ones?

Beautiful work, btw.!

You might want start a new thread asking for recommended partition schemes. I'm sure lots of people will chip in with their suggestions.

Give some relevant info:

1, are you going to multi/dual -boot? Keeping your Windows OS on the machine? Other Linux OSes?
2. where do you intend to keep your data and media files? Do you need to share with another OS (see question 1)
3. hardware details
4. UEFI or legacy boot, etc
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

Partition sizes are in S2, not S1. The GParted image in S2 has a caption that explains the large partition sizes in that image.
Backup: Dell9010, MX-19_B2, Win7, 120 SSD, WD 232GIB HD, 4GB RAM
Primary :Homebrew64 bit Intel duo core 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Kingston SSD, Seagate1TB.
MX-18.2 64bit. Also MX17, Kubuntu14.04 & Puppy 6.3.
