MX-18.3 Trinity 14.0.5 respin (x64)

#1 Post by JayM »

Based on Mark's MX Continuum (Minimal) respin, with Firefox ESR and Featherpad installed, Transmission bittorrent client removed, and updated. I installed the Trinity PPAs for Ubuntu Stretch (yes, I know: "NO PPAS!") then installed Trinity's latest version, 14.0.5, current as of July 2018, then installed a bunch of other Trinity apps such as Dolphin, Kedit and Kate. I installed Trinity's TDM display manager and set it to use that instead of LightDM (which is still installed, so you can switch back if you want to.) The default passwords are still the same: demo and root, and all of the MX tools are still there. Download the README file from the "SHOW ALL" link on the right-hand side of the site, which is https://archive.org/details/mx18.3trinitydex64, for more information, known issues, etc. You can also download the md5 and sha512 checksum files from there to verify the iso's integrity before using it.

Hi JayM. For what reason not the latest Trinity 14.0.6 ?

Code: Select all

https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/DebianInstall#R14.0.x_series
as explained here :

Code: Select all

Configure the package manager
Add the following lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file.

NOTE 1: make sure to replace <your-distribution> with your actual distribution name.

NOTE 2: deb-src lines following are optional.

TDE R14.0.x series

deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-r14.0.0/debian <your-distribution> main
deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.0/debian <your-distribution> main
deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-r14.0.0/debian <your-distribution> main
deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.0/debian <your-distribution> main
P.S.
Personally I am big fans of Trinity. But lately I have found that KDE Plasma 5.16.5 has made a great improvements and uses on start roundly 500 MB of ram or maybe less and with some tricks can use also less. I have experimented with Gecko Linux Next (KDE) and PCLinuxOS KDE. Both using latest KDE. So sorry that Gecko Linux has not so much fans or support. It is e great OpenSuse distro.

14,0,5 was the latest available version of Trinity at the time I made the respin, as I stated in my original post. 14.0.6 supposedly came out in March of this year per Trinity's website but it wasn't available on their site as of June when I made the respin. It may have actually still been in beta at the time. IIRC it became available a week after I made my respin. :( I think the respin should be automatically updated to 14.0.6 via the installed Trinity PPA and MX Updater after installation, but I haven't actually tested it to be sure. If the Trinity PPAs for 14.0.5 and 14.0.6 are the same then it should auto-update. If not, I'll have to redo the respin and there's not any point now with MX-19 coming before long. I may as well wait.

Could you theme your respin so it look the same as Q4OS, please? I still love the classic Windows XP like theme so much, but Q4OS is systemd based :bawling:

Hunghung asked exactly my question. Q4OS' theming is outstanding, is it the "Debonair" theme that makes it that way, or just the start menu? I am not clear whether debonair is trinity or KDE5, but the debonair look Q4OS has is excellent. I've been liking it for a while but no theme is worth moving away from MX

I note that some of the xp stuff is here: https://xpq4.sourceforge.io/

Based on THIS page it appears debonair is a theme for Trinity. That's what I personally would love to have - Trinity with a more modern set of icons and look:

Sorry, no. I'm not going to spend time redoing this respin just to change the theme, which is Trinity's default one. Users can feel free to re-theme their own installations however they like according to their tastes and preferences. If you want to, take my Trinity respin, make it look and feel like Q4OS, then upload it and share it as another respin, just like I used Manyroads' MX minimal respin as the basis for my respins. This is open source: feel free to fork anothers' project and build on it. Just be so kind as to name your respin differently than mine to avoid confusion.
