Stevo's MX16-KDE: strange issue with root password

For issues with MX that has been modified from the initial install. Example: adding packages that then cause issues.

Stevo's MX16-KDE: strange issue with root password

#1 Post by asqwerth »

I have Stevo's KDE respin on VM, and after I added Oracle's VB repo, reloading Synaptic led to the message that there were no keys for that repo, so I tried to open Check Apt GPG from within MX Tools. It gave me this window:
MXTools-gpg.png
I entered my root password and got this error message:
MXTools-gpg2.png
However, if I just select the specific check-apt-gpg tool from the KDE start/applications menu, a terminal opens up requesting root password, I enter it, and the Oracle gpg key is downloaded and applied just fine.

What's the difference?

what happens if you type "x-terminal-emulator" in console?

I also wonder if the quoting is a bit screwed up, a bit too many single quotes...

In MX-17 checkaptgpg in KDE is now started like this: https://github.com/MX-Linux/checkaptgpg ... esktop#L22

But didn't put out a update for MX-15/16. (didn't feel like installing KDE on MX-15/16 to test it)

Sorry, was watching football.

This is what happened:

1. a separate xfce terminal opened (the command was run in the KDE Konsole)
2. the following message showed up in Konsole:

Code: Select all

mxtest@mx16KDE:~
$ x-terminal-emulator

** (xfce4-terminal:4220): WARNING **: Error retrieving accessibility bus address: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.a11y.Bus was not provided by any .service files
