I find that the site loads a bit slow. Anyway, I was curious if there's any news on M12 coming. :)
11.9 is the second alpha (testing) release of the upcoming Mepis 12, and yes, because it is an alpha it has some issues.

If you're looking for the last officially released version, that would be 11.0.

I had to make a new account. I cannot remember my username. The site claims my (other) email address is in use but when I check the email account (in a search), I can't find anything about Mepis forums.

I haven't used Mepis in ages, though. Does Brooko still post here?

A relative of mine wanted to use Mepis (long time user) so I helped install it on the laptop.

I installed 11.9 on my desktop and both computers have the optical drive tray come out any time there's a reboot. Is that a bug?

I guess I'll install 11 on the other desktop soon.

I'm a fan of straight Debian myself.

Brooko posts rarely and no longer administers the site.

Still around. Unfortunately using Linux much less than I used to. Most of my time spent in Win7 nowadays - got sick of dual booting - and need couple of Windows apps for work that won't run via Linux.

Miss the KDE environment - but still have netbook running Ubuntu.

Will probably have a crack at MEPIS again when/if 12 is eventually released.

Hope all well.

Interesting. I wonder if such a trajectory isn't pretty common among Linux users in the business world unless, like me, they work in a one-person environment.

In many cases it is one and only one, but it forces the MS choice.

I'm confident it's a question of when, not if.

I think you hit the nail on the head Jerry. The program in question is a custom one that requires a combination of in-house encryption + java to allow us to login to our mainframe remotely. I do quite a bit of work from home after hours. They built the system from a Windows point of view - and although they tell me it 'should' also work under Linux, none of the "idjits" in our IT Dept have ever got it working under Linux. So I'm stuck until they eventually deem it important enough to actually do some work on it.

I have no doubt that it'll happen eventually. I mean - anyone actually trying the train-wreck that is Windows 8 will know exactly what I mean ;)

Speaking of train wrecks, someone should do something about this.

How did you even find that page?! I hope the 24 viewers in the last 5 months (perhaps much of it since your post...) were not shocked.

I do not maintain this minimal Italian Wiki, for good reason, but it did allow me to create a new user--which it should not do. For that reason, I can now see that the Italian Wiki is full of spam, even on the front page. Not sure what to do ATM, though I am thinking of the nuclear option--will consult with Peregrine.
