Thanks Mike. Had not thought to look the front end of a pdf previously. Regardless of version, there is still
a massive size difference in the outputs from different pdf converters/generators.

Re: PDF file sizes
@ Tim Many thanks for the comment and reference. I was surprised at the increase in file size from Photoshop over 12 times. A plain text pdf was not quite so bad but the Photoshop file was still 4.7 times larger than the Gimp pdf from the same source. Am not panicking yet but this project, of about ...

Re: PDF file sizes
Sorry to cause confusion JayM , Yes I was careless in defining the file sizes. The pdf from Gimp was nearly 900 kilobytes while the Photoshop produced a file of 13+ megabytes from the same source. And yes I do have sort of radio background, in fact for most of my working life. After field experience...

PDF file sizes
Am working with a colleague to recover a series of old journals and assemble a digital archive. I am using Gimp on MX19, he uses Windows/Photoshop, to clean up the scanned pages from the journals. There are some large differences in the pdf files that result from our processing. Generally pdfs from ...

Re: Some of you might remember this
Cannot put an exact date on it but I was nudged towards Mepis by Mike Pav when I
first attended the local Linux User Group. Apart from an early and brief reversion to
Kubuntu, it has been Mepis and several shades of MX ever since. No regrets!!

Re: Preferences Dialog [Nearly Solved]
Am recording progress here, just in case someone else strikes the same problem. It started with the Panel - on the left screen-side here - disappearing so that my icons for my shortcuts to MX Forum and many other applications were lost. I re-installed MX19.1 but did not re-install the Home files. Th...
