Re: Moving SSD Drive contents to NVMe M.2? [Solved]

I much prefer to create new partitions and then copy the contents but I don't know if this will work for Windows. IIRC there may be some files in Windows that you won't be able to copy. They might be similar to swap files on LInux. I've tried many tools to do the copying such as tar, cpio, and even...

Re: Any MX Enlightenment Users?

I worked on code to automatically remember open apps along with their desktop, size, and location. I eventually gave up because I couldn't get it to be 100% reliable. As they say, 90%of the work is in the last 10% of the job. I was able to remember and restore tabs for a terminal emulator but not fo...

Re: Any MX Enlightenment Users?

FWIW: I use e16 on Gentoo. I switch to e16 from kde-3 when in the early days of kde-4 it did not work well on my dual monitor system. I created my own e16 theme and created a number of tools for it and, of course, my own wallpapers. For example I wrote a script that takes as input a bookmarks.html f...

Re: The meaning of "open source" has been changed

I think we need to hold the line and NOT accept that the meaning has changed, but that misuse is common. Many people feel this same way. I probably did at some point. But now I see it as an utterly losing battle and thus a waste of my time and energy. At best. We are in a small niche. Language evol...

Re: MX-21 Workbench

With the very slick MX-Workbench already done, what would be gained by having an antiX equivalent, other than a bit smaller, and maybe banning systemd and pulseaudio from the workbench disk. In my experience antiX boots much faster. I also like that it has more of a focus on the command line and th...

Re: MX-21 Workbench

I bragged about MX-Workbench on the Gentoo forums yesterday as an example of what a rescue/admin/maintenance disk should look like. I hope other users are discovering and using this excellent piece of work. I started working on the antiX/MX live system (many years ago) to make a fast-booting rescue...

The meaning of "open source" has been changed

Historically it has meant software that has the source code available as in Free and open source software . But recently the meaning has been changed to something like "information that is available to the public". I hear this new meaning used at least several times a day in reporting on c...

Re: Remove screen resolutions above 1080p [Solved]

Congrats on solving the problem! I'd like to see the xorg.conf file that worked for you. Being able to limit the screen resolution in general could be very useful, especially on the live system.

Re: Live Usb Maker not working on Fedora 35

Does the usb maker have any more verbose logs I can check out? Yes. There is detailed log at /var/log/live-usb-maker.log No longer working on up-to-date stable Gentoo either. That's odd. The cli version works fine here on Gentoo stable: git clone https://github.com/BitJam/live-usb-maker git clone h...

Re: Flash drive encryption with mx system

Yes and yes. You need the MX live-usb-maker program (or the version on antiX). If you're not on MX or antiX already but are on Linux, there's a live-usb-maker AppImage you can install. If you're on a foreign OS like Windows then first make a normal live-usb with whatever tool is available on Windows...
