OK, that worked, the synaptic upgrade to mx-installer was installed. This is on a fresh USB copy, I re-loaded it in my beta2 onto the same stick. I installed the new installer, and hit install, all went as normal. In the partition window this time the USB (sdc) did not appear, but when proceeding it...
