Re: Grub installation failed for dual boot laptop
Hi everyone, I have a laptop which has been dual-booted with Linux for several years. Every so often I decide to try a different distribution and today I decided to replace my Ubuntu Mate with MX. The plan was to install MX over the top of my existing root partition and use grub to boot into the ne...

Re: mx-update: package-icon must be hidden manually after each update
Now whenever I have made an MX-update wih the MX-updater I have to hide the package-icon manually (hide until updates are availiable). I have to do this after each update new. That's right, this function was implemented with the newer version differently, in a way that it it's hides one-time only u...

Re: Dual boot: Lost Windows option after 23.2 upgrade
Running the dpkg-reconfigure command twice did the job - I was able to turn on the option to run os-prober automatically . Good, b/c migration from an earlier MX-21 to MX23.2, can create more complicated situations. My only confusion now is that I'm not sure where GRUB should be installed. There we...

Re: Dual boot: Lost Windows option after 23.2 upgrade
I'd really like to hear from anyone who has had a similar problem AND HAS FOUND A (HOPEFULLY FAIRLY SIMPLE) SOLUTION! May be simple one to start with: * Open terminal as normal user and run: sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc you may see an option to "run os-prober automatically", if so turn i...

Re: Installation: sdb as "/" and boot instead of sda
Thank you fehlix. Not the MX-Installer, but the kernel assigns the device names "sda" and "sdb" to the drives at every boot, freshly . Does this mean, that when I install with the configuration from the printscreen from post #1 (without exchanging the SATA ports), it can be, tha...

Re: Installation: sdb as "/" and boot instead of sda
Hello, The MX-Installer wants to choose my 1.8 GB HDD as "sda" and my SDD as "sdb": Zuordnung der Festplatten.png Not the MX-Installer, but the kernel assigns the device names "sda" and "sdb" to the drives at every boot, freshly. Question? Does it also take s...

Re: grub vanished after update/upgrade [Solved]
> grub> ls gives (hd1,gpt3) as / Edited: grub> ls gives (hd1,gpt4) as / (rootMX21) I'm able to see the files in "grub> ls (hd1,gpt4)/boot" and "(hd1,gpt4)/boot/grub". (grub.efi in the later) > Click in Thunar to mount a partition Didn't get it. Thunar apparently showing only MX ...

Re: grub vanished after update/upgrade [Solved]
> b/c grub counts hdN from 0 i.e. hd0 is sda and hd1 is sdb It seems you're right. I can navigate the usb stick (MX Live). Hence sda1. Not sure if I'm able to mount rootMX21 partition. Is it possible from MX Live? That's just one Click in Thunar to mount a partition. It may ask for a authentication...
