Re: Post-antiX-16-Base_x64 -control center stuff not working
So far very fast. I ran a live CD, and after ten minutes pressed install, and ten minutes rebooted to the desk top. I really like the inclusion of xmms. Also agree with the philosphy of firefox esr versions. Several features are not working. iso was md5 verified, verified after burn, all OK. For exa...

Re: antiX-16-b2.1-full available
That's cool by me...I use the esr on Windows and when ever possible in linux.
esr has a more stable interface, less hunting around when Mozilla moves things around like the book mark management.

Re: Some minor improvement ideas for MX
The services selection appears on Figure 2-20: Installer Screen 6.
As Jerry 3904 posted in the manual's screen by screen from the install.
Service settings (Advanced).
Here you can enable/disable a host of services to your liking.

Re: Some minor improvement ideas for MX
djh Welcome to the forums. You will enjoy the MX/AnitX/Mepis forums, fantastic attitude, great technical depth. Yes the option to disable services is not that obvious during the install. It is a small check box with a warming something like "for expert users". I guess the fear is one could...

Re: Some minor improvement ideas for MX
During the install on MX-15, we are offered a chance to control what services are installed.
For desktop machines, I un-check the bluetooth and spam assassin.
I have not need for those services, so less installed, less chances for a security hole.

Re: MX-15 - favorite KDE tweaks
I also like KDE, but ran into the sound problems, so scaled back my efforts. This makes me respect the high quality betas and releases that Warren used to make. I am getting used to xfce as I use it more and tweak it to my liking. (k3b for example) So I will hold off for now. As I wrote in another t...

Re: Laptops Acer Aspire 3680
Acer Aspire 3680 (Nice little machine, was free to me, surprisingly snappy despite the slow processor. The slow Hitachi 5400 RPM died, oh darn, that old 32G OCZ SSD will fit !Now the laptop is even better. Oh yea, with MX-14, It had ridiculous up times (albeit often in suspend mode) of >280 days) 1)...

Re: MX-15 - favorite KDE tweaks
to timkb4cq Thanks for the tip on the KDE sound. I installed the new MX-15 over my Mepis 11.92 beta with a tear in my eye. I thought MX is so solid now and I am getting slowly up to speed on all the xfce stuff that it can replace Mepis 12. I instaledl the KDE with the MX installer in an experimental...

Re: What's your swappiness set to, eh?
I have experimented the swapiness settings in Mepis. As kmathern wrote "It's not uncommon on my machine to see some swap being used, in fact the free command says it's using a small amount right now." On systems with lots of RAM (16 and 8G), use of swap does not go away in my playing aroun...

Re: Post your hardware specs.
this is my alternate machine. Aimed for low power, I just replaced the ancient OCZ 30Gig drive with a nice new Sammy 850 Pro. It is cool and quiet, a quad core at 2.5 GHz and 45 Watts, a WD green drive, fanless power supply, one big slow 120mm case fan all crammed into a tiny cube case. So what bett...
