I did all of this except my computer shows that it already has the correct xkb-data but does not startx. after the login screen it just goes to a black screen. The command I used was sudo startx.
By fails to start I mean a bunch of stuff showed on the screen but was gone too soon for me to see what it said.
Suggestions?
I realize a lot of people are no doubt still trying to figure this out.

Likewise here when I try to boot into MX 19-64 i only get a console but if I issue the first command to downgrade the xkb-data it says I already have that version. Start-x fails to start, I do not remember when I did the update. Should I do the second command? System: Kernel: 5.10.0-21-amd64 [5.10.1...
