Re: the go-to distro
Mepis has always been my go-to distribution. For years the live CD was a miracle tool, and could fix almost any problem, in your linux box, or a friends Win machine.Good HW detection and very stable performance since 3.4 and 6.5. Later I enjoyed antix 13, as it powers an ancient laptop that does ON...

Re: Do I need 64 bit?
Joany, Yup, it is screaming fast! My wife calls this my "supercomputer" which is pretty accurate. I make comparison to the Cray YMP I think that had 4-8 cores, similar RAM. My old buddy at Boeing had to get a security clearance to run jobs on such a machine back in the late 80s early 90s. ...

Re: Do I need 64 bit?
With the pae kernel available, I think the main reason for 64 bit is taken away . Not sure with MX, but in Windows XP, 32 bit limited you to about 3 Gig of RAM. I do like , and use more than that now with MX-14. top - 21:39:22 up 16 days, 2 min, 4 users, load average: 1.21, 1.55, 1.60 Tasks: 218 tot...

Re: Post your hardware specs.
As the sig reads, I am dual booting with Mepis12 beta 2 fully updated. M12 runs stable for weeks at a time, except the occasional iceweasel crash. ;-} MX-14 , so far testing.... seems stable so far. bitjam,
You da man !
That was an easy fix to "Uncheck the "Allow Click To Flash" box"...
Now Pandora is playing as normal.
How obscure, how did you find that?

Pandora
I have my updated dual install (Mepis12 beta2 and MX-14) running great. Under Mepis Pandora plays nicely in the browser. Under MX-14, no action. I searched these forums, and read a request for Pithos. This was in the repos ( I am using however the repos came default at the installation), so I instal...

Re: Harddrives renaming themselves?
To Eadwine Rose, No insult intended. I am sorry to come off that way. I wrote "Obviously...." to power off, so I think I realize that you and probably most on this list know this. But as an engineer, I know sometimes a reminder for those obvious things prevents accidents. Sorry, and best o...

lucky9 is right "Post # 331955 Post Re: Harddrives renaming themselves? The Master/Slave setting is, or at least can be, extremely important. Depends on the Hardware and Software (Firmware on the optical drive) and the kernel that's being used (and the way it's built). Cable Select (CS) is prob...

Re:GParted in MX-14 beta 2 wouldn't load
OK, a bit more research on partitioning my old PATA drive. I booted Puppy Live CD (old 5.4.3 I think) and I was able to run GParted. I made a traditional ext3, swap, ext3 partition scheme for /, swap and /home. Not sure why GParted locked with MX-14. But now I have a correctly partitioned disk, and ...

GParted locks up? MX-14 beta 2
The beta2 booted into a live session (beta 1 did not) on my old A7N8X mother board. OK, so I found an old PATA drive in the parts bin and installed it so I could install MX-14. This old machine has a working XP installation on a SATA drive that I have disconnected the power on so it is undisturbed. ...
