Re: Please DON'T update if +1900 packages

Read the explanation here as to why you are taking a big risk if you just switch repos after MX19 based on Buster is released.

Re: Post Install - Adding My Common Packages

His script would help when, for example, he installs a fresh mx19 over current mx18. Preserving home during fresh install means his configs are saved. But the actual program that uses a particular config may not actually be installed by default in mx19. So then the program will need to be installed ...

Re: What are your favorite sports to watch - and why

(non-American) Football.

Others that I do watch occasionally are badminton, tennis, rugby (well, 7-a-side at least), even golf.

Nothing where vehicles, humans or animals go round and round (or up and down) a track or circuit numerous times ad nauseam.

Re: Good MX review

I really don't get all the fuss about the vertical panel. Ubuntu's Unity and Gnome's Dash are on the left as well. It's as if no other DE or distro has ever done this in history or something.

And MX has the ability, being XFCE, for users to move the panel, just like in MATE or KDE4 or Plasma.

Re: MX-Linux; antiX Linux

Isn't it ARM-based?

If you do a search of the forum, you'll find that none of the developers have the time or equipment to adapt and test MX on ARM hardware. However, members of the community if interested may always try to come up with a ARM respin.

Re: Dell XPS Developer Edition question

It's not so much MX vs Ubuntu, but XFCE 4.12 vs Gnome, I believe. Currently XFCE doesn't have the ability to scale up the resolution without some manual tweaks that may not be perfect. Gnome does. I have the same issue with my laptop, which was my first experience with 1920x1080 on a smallish screen...

Re: Update Icon missing

Did you upgrade the panel or any plugin, eg whisker, to a gtk3 version? I think there's a gtk3 whisker in test repo.

I'm just throwing ideas into the mix.

Re: XFCE and DE innovation

... And as he points out the key is "only giving users what they want" And not taking away features people are already so used to. GNOME has been taking away, reinstating, and removing again/rejigging/relocating features since Gnome3 was first released. See the ever-changing UI of Nautilu...

Re: MX-19 and systemd

I'm sure Head on a Stick will be by soon to explain that if you knew what you were doing, you could choose from a range of inits besides systemd in Debian proper  Have you tried runit-init ? It's awesome... Not on Debian, because I don't know what I'm doing. :p I have it on Void Linux, becau...

Re: MX-19 and systemd

To be fair to those users, Debian Buster did break systemd-shim, so co-existence of both inits in the same installation was looking uncertain for MX19, if not for the person who stepped up to look into fixing the shim package for Buster. So for those users who like MX but need systemd for some reaso...
