Re: mx-packageinstaller (MX15/16) unmet dependency -- xdg-desktop-portal-gtk

I've removed this upgrade from the MX-15 repo so the error will disappear as the mirrors update.
It was apparently only meant for the MX-17 branch.

Re: request to upgrade simple-scan

Simple-scan 3.28-1 is now available in the MX-17 Test repo. Use the Package Installer in MX-Tools to access the Test repo. I have a Canon LIDE30 scanner & it works properly with the new version - but it also works with the stock 3.23 version. I did have to edit /etc/default/tlp as I described in...

Re: Brand NEW IBM PC AT 1988

This is being typed on a 1986 Model M. I also have a newer Model M which had been a Token Ring terminal keyboard before I converted it. It fell prey to the only thing that seems to kill Model Ms - before I acquired it somebody had spilled soda into it which eventually ate up the traces on the mylar....

Re: Connecting different types of "Ethernet cables" - possible?

Appropriate speed is being autonegotiated, correct? Meaning: Assuming that both cables are intact, and the coupler is intact, too, there's actually nothing that should go wrong (except for having a low speed connection). Correct? Yup! Unless you have disabled auto negotiation on one or more of the ...

Re: Warning UEFI rootkit

Reading through the linked White Paper, it looks like a purely Windows implementation based on an old version of LoJack or it's predecessor Computrace which was factory installed in many laptops. It has to be customized for the particular UEFI implementation so while it's technically "in the wi...

Re: Connecting different types of "Ethernet cables" - possible?

For a 10 meter run the minor differences between Cat 5 & Cat 6 (or 7) won't matter. If you have an old Cat 3 cable involved it may limit the speed to 100 mb/s (or even 10 if it has deteriorated over the years). Just make sure you are using a straight-through coupler if it's intended to replace a...

OK, the necessary files are back in the Test repo and Audacity is now installable from the Package Installer.

Let us know how it's working for you.

Re: Audacity (Cannot update from the MX Test Repo)

It looks like ffmpeg was upgraded in the Test repo, but Audacity was not rebuilt with the new version.
Let me see if I can get those bits back in the Test repo without messing up the new version...

Re: Security/surveillance camera & compatible software

Seems that when using analog CCTV cameras, the cable's resistance has to match the length of the cable connection (please correct me if I'm wrong). The characteristic impedance of the cable (and the connectors) should match what the camera is expecting. Nearly all video equipment that has a coaxial...
