Re: Fresh install on SSD takes 3 minutes to boot into MX

I Googled( drm_atomic_helper_wait_for dependencies ) and Googled( drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_flip_done ). The first hits involved complaints like yours, minutes-long delays while booting. One fix was to upgrade to a more recent kernel. Another fix was to remove the xserver-xorg-video-intel package (...

Re: Installing MX Linux on my laptop

Consumer SSDs benchmarked to death —and last far longer than rated Tech-savvy buyers who might be worried about SSD lifetime decreasing even as SSD capacity skyrockets should have their fears assuaged by the ridiculous number of writes the tested drives endured; the drive that survived the longest ...

Re: Father's on MX Linux after hard drive crash. hp-setup

hp-setup is included OOTB. I use it to set up my printer. ISTM the suggestion is to add an hp-setup.desktop file so it shows up in menus, Whisker, etc. Seems like a good idea even if we don't squeeze it into the upcomiong release. Maybe have an mx-hplip package that has the desktop file and depends...

Re: how to auto mount ntfs partition at startup - live mx w/ persitence

this is how my /etc/fstab currently look like: [...] /media/WIN500 [...] IIUC, directories under /media are created on an as-needed basis for dynamically mounting file systems. That directory (/media) is always cleared on every live boot by mounting a small tmpfs file system there. This is also a s...

Re: Adding more colors to terminal

MX is more GUI oriented than terminal oriented. But our sister distro, antiX, has a lot of terminal support. I use the urxvt terminal emulator. It has great support for customizing the ANSI escape sequence colors. For example here are the colors displayed by the "ansi-colors" program in a standard t...

Re: Suggestions about USB live Maker

[...] whenever i use linux commands to make bootable usb using gparted to format the usb drive makes it some time difficult The command line version of live-usb-maker already has an option to "Clear the partition table on a usb device" . This should make gparted happy. I don't know if this option i...

Re: Slimming down MX

If I were going to do this, I'd be tempted to see if I could go the other way, starting with antiX Base. +1 Over on the antiX forums we always suggest people start with a smaller system and build up rather than start with a larger system and take things away. Our core, base, and full release are me...
