Re: Auto install updates?

Auto updating is a scary proposition, even for a distro built on Debian Stable. There is always the odd chance an update will remove something important and bork your system. I like to see what is happening during updates. On the other hand, if you are setting up a machine for someone who would nev...

Re: Auto install updates?

Assuming you are running 17.1, right-click the Updater icon, select Preferences, and check Auto Update. The information is in section 3.2.1 of the manual, which is well worth at least having a look through, if you haven't already done so. For security reasons, no new packages are added automatically...

Does the ddm-mx nvidia installer still work correctly after all the nvidia related updates?
Did a fresh install, fully updated it to 9.5, then ran the Nvidia installer.

After necessary reboot, all is well. Quick System Info shows driver changed from nouveau to nvidia 340.106

Re: TRUE session save possible? MX Tools? How?

I think you can use the "Session and Startup" tool to save a session. But if the autosave at logout isn't working, that might not either. I've tested that in the past, and just checked again, but it appears to randomly choose what to restart. I use three virtual desktops, and the things that do get...

Re: How to use nvidia

Laptops with dual video graphics can be problematic. My experience with them is with Dell machines, and I've never found an entirely satisfactory solution. Synaptic has Bumblebee, software and drivers that attempt to make use of the two cards, and the Wiki has some information on this. Another optio...

Re: antiX fund-drive

So how do you EC cards if you don't have a number? You don't need a card number to pay at a cash machine, or to withdraw cash at an ATM. There is an embedded code of course, which might be numerical, but it's not exposed to the end user. They are possibly more secure with no number on them if they ...

Re: MX17.1 Stop WiFi autoconnecting

Is there not a hardware switch, or keyboard combination on your machine to do that? The other option is to edit Network Connections, and on the General tab uncheck 'Automatically connect to this network when it is available.' This will require you to enter the passphrase for the SSID you want to use...

Re: Formatting USB drive

One thing that Mint 17.xxx and 18.xxx have is in Accessories, one tool is called ' USB Image Writer' and another called 'USB Stick Formatter', which are so easy to use and would be ideal for Fehix's newbie. I don't want to knock MX as I love it and prefer it to those other distros, but these tools ...
