Usually upgrading will keep you updated, however some upgrades are a bit more tricky. But the devs will let you know if that is the case :)

That could very well be the case.. they are not liveUSBs after all which configure things on the fly. It is the very same reason that I cannot stick my windows SSD into just any computer. Different hardware means different drivers, so when I get my new system I will have to reinstall so THOSE driver...

There is no need to post an md5sum, there is a need to crosscheck if your downloaded iso is ok, and if the media you made to install is ok. Did you check the md5sum/hash/sha/etc of the download and the media you used to install?

Well.. as said.. it is solved. But I figured, juuuuust in case someone runs into the same snafu, I'd post it, because the solution turned out to be really simple. I started Clonezilla on MX, and it only detected my new Samsung SSD, not the Seagate external SSD which is where I wanted the image to go...

Just start with getting the SSD, it'll make a big difference. MX doesn't need a large size so they are relatively cheap. :) I'm thinking about doing just that.
