Re: Questions about terminal

1. You can type either y or Y, it shows Y with capital letter because that's the default option so when you press Enter that's the selected on, sometime the prompt will show y/N in which case N is the default 2. Yes, it's probably better to examine the question and respond appropriately. 3. apt-get ...

Re: Give me a few reasons WHY

Am i right to assume that MCX Linux is a "rolling-ish" distro? I'm only asking because people have mentioned upgrading from one release to another without having to do a fresh install We were able to roll between MX-17 and MX-18 (and then 18.2, 18.3) because they are having the same Stretch base, o...

Re: Anyone buying the new Rpi 4?

The OS for the Pi - Raspian - has lots of optimisation, and specifically optimised programs. Much as I love MX Linux, I'm afraid I don't see the need to create a version for the Pi. Chris Don't particularly see a need other than being able to run MX and take snapshots and the like, but other that t...

Re: Anyone buying the new Rpi 4?

If it came about, I'd use antiX &/or MX on my RPi too, but I think it would add too heavy a burden on our developers, they do a brilliant job on the distros now, & I think they deserve some time off. Debian releases for ARM, so we'd have those packages, not sure how compiling would work for...

Re: Can we get a "NEWBIE" section

I see no need for a special section, and the reason for that is that newbies should not feel afraid to post questions in the general forum, we treat newbies well by default, we don't need a special forum for that. Besides everybody is a newbie in one way or another, so we can all learn from each oth...

Re: Anyone buying the new Rpi 4?

I wonder about durability of these little computers.
I think they are very reliable, they don't have any moving components and usually people leave them on which avoids the power on/off spikes, as long as you keep them cool enough they should work for a looooong time.

That's nice, that being said I left Facebook 6 years ago and didn't look back, they are the scummiest of the scummiest companies. But whatever floats people's boats...

Re: I think Debian is about to get even more popular

People will run out of excuses when it comes to hardware, new Raspberry Pi for $35 https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-4-on-sale-now-from-35/ It's more powerful than any 32bit-only systems people might run. 1.5GHz quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A72 CPU (~3× performance) even the Raspberry Pi ...

Re: I think Debian is about to get even more popular

Somebody pointed that apt cannot even deal with this scenario, if you have a library in both amd64 and 386 architectures, you cannot install 386 lib if it's older than amd64 one (didn't test that but that sounds likely).

Re: I think Debian is about to get even more popular

I believe Ubuntu has no interest in the desktop going forward.
I believe you are correct, they are chasing virtual machines and enterprise users, this is just backpedaling to stop the bad press and general disgust.
