Re: Manual v. 20150316 feedback thread

When skimming through the manual, I noticed this in Section 2.3.1: Software licenses Many proprietary programs for Windows are not installable without a license key or CD key. Unless you are set on doing away with Windows permanently, make sure you have a license key for any program that requires it...

Re: LHG is back, with MX running on a netbook

Yes... MX-14 is great for lower powered computers. I've got it installed as the primary OS on a little Dell 11Z Netbook. Our great niece (my wife's sister's daughter's daughter) is staying with us right now and uses that Netbook with MX-14 every day, and even though she has no prior experience with ...

Re: general

One thing good about it is that the kickoff menu/launcher feels much more under the user's mouse control. Don't know about other people, but I find the KDE4 launcher too "slippery". You just move the cursor a little off course, it aims at another entry, and the menu is sliding along to th...

Re: general

...anybody installing kubuntu from now on has to use it as they are now promoting the desktop. Kubuntu "Vivid Vervet" (15.04) using a KDE Plasma 5.12 desktop is an Alpha 1 release at this point (the very first alpha available from Kubuntu using that desktop). You can also install a KDE Pl...

Re: OS Poll

@JimC Sure many users probably use several OS's, but I wanted to keep it simple, not account for all variations. In other words what do people spend the most time using. I do not expect to draw firm conclusions. Just trying to get a sense. Well... I selected the "Other Distro" choice in t...

Re: OS Poll

I think that most users here are probably using some flavor of Mepis, AntiX or MX-14; although they may not be using it as their primary OS. I used Mepis for my main OS for a number of years (starting with the Mepis 3.3, upgrading through Mepis 11), in dual boot configs with various Windows versions...

Re: the go-to distro

My "go to distro" for linux newbies moving from XP is Linux Lite 1.0.8; using an XFCE desktop with an Ubuntu 12.04.3 base. It's really easy to use and install (thanks to the ubuntu based installer that handles all resizing of partitions for the end user without them needing to understand h...

Re: Post your hardware specs.

My bad. I must have skimmed the results too fast. In any any event, it's a reliable build for sure. Our [great] niece (my wife's sister's daughter's daughter) has been using MX-14 with that Dell Inspiron 11Z netbook with no issues at all, and I doubt she's ever used another Operating System besides ...

Re: Post your hardware specs.

I think I've got the record for a system using MX-14 that's actually being used with it so far (up time) compared to other user posting info so far, versus booting into MX-14 to post the info in this thread. :-) See the "Info" section at the bottom of the results for a little Dell Inspiron...
