Re: Problems with big December package update

Re: Problems with big December package update

you should be able to put encryptfs-utils back. it may come back to life just by doing that.

I think there is a way to recover the password. There are some ubuntu wikis that are pretty good on encyrptfs

Re: Problems with big December package update

Maybe the blog announcement on the big December updates should have cautions targeted at: 1. Nvidia users; 2. people who automate their autoremoval of apparently orphaned packages; 3. people who might have enabled the third party deb-multimedia repo [might affect new GIMP]. already did one with the...

Re: Problems with big December package update

Just for information, two users in our Facebook group have problems after the big update, These seem related to the inability to run any MX tools, or to start MX Tools itself. One has already re-installed; I've asked the other user to report here. Chris Nvidia driver autoremove issue almost 100 per...

Worked perfectly. Thanks again!

(No idea how video drivers can affect opening programs....)
Qt applications utilize graphics acceleration. when your nvidia-driver was removed, some libaries went with it, leaving an incomplete graphics environment and leading Qt applications to segfault.

Re: samsung galaxy s7 photo transfer - Shotwell no longer works

I always have to swipe on the notifications area of my phone to turn it to file transfer mode. Otherwise it defaults to "charging" even when plugged in to the pc with usb.

Re: Suddenly VLC and SMP do not open

If you are running nvidia drivers make sure you didn't accidentally remove them during the last update. If so, reinstall them

Holy xxxxxxx, the new boot time is less than 20 seconds! Thanks!

Are there any downsides to using older kernels like security holes? Or do older kernels still get supported and have their loopholes patched?
the debian 4.9 kernel is kept up to date with security fixes.

Re: Desktop icons are not visible

xfdesktop probably stopped running, and the saved session feature of Xfce is remembering not to run it (which is dumb, but it happens).

so restart xfdesktop

Code: Select all

xfdesktop &
and then you should be good.
