Just checked Synaptic Package Manager and Ran Update for google chrome (as being the only update now to do) and it completed fine.

MX Updater also now shows no updates to do.

So all seems good now, even after a reboot.

Ok I just figured I'd try apt update again, and it appeared to have worked. This is an Xfce MX-19.2 system I set up for someone about 2 years ago and hasn't been updated since. I've tried running MX Repo Manager and MX Fix GPG keys. MX Updater shows : Here is the error: 389 upgraded, 40 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 93.0 MB/1,744 MB of archive...
