Re: Just an observation...

The stability was attributed to ...Debian stable, antiX, and the developers... Yes, certainly. I think there is also a heritage from Mepis and Warren, he was noted for stability, like MX/antiX, the betas are more reliable than a lot of released versions. People rant his last beta as a daily driver f...

Re: new linux mint, behind in xfce compared to MX

I did not mean to say the new mint is bad. I am thankful for those that responded with first hand experience with the new versions. Sounds good, though I have not much time for distro hopping now. My trials of mint were long ago when they first overtook Ubuntu on distro watch. I had problems with th...

new linux mint, behind in xfce compared to MX

The new linux mint, behind in xfce compared to MX, according to this: "Of course, what fans of Linux Mint have really been looking forward to is the release of Tara -- version 19 of the operating system. It was supposed to be released by the end of June, and today, it just makes it in under the wire...

Re: Finally De-Googled

In other news definitely related to this topic, I heard google lobbied heavily against this bill (SpyBook also), but it passed... https://yro.slashdot.org/story/18/06/28/207230/california-lawmakers-pass-bill-to-give-consumers-broad-privacy-rights "The bill -- AB 375, or the California Consumer Priva...

Re: hello every one

I knew you would write that Jerry.

And to that I would add, the MX manual (in synergy with this forum) is one of the secret weapons that makes MX linux so powerful.

Re: hello every one

dwayne, Welcome. This is a great forum to learn about MX and linux in general. There are some real experts here ! The experts here can solve most any hardware/software problem if you are patient, cooperative, and interactive. Much better attitudes here than on some of the rtfm forums from other dist...

Re: MX repos, what should the antix URI be?

tim, Yup, that did the trick, down from 93 cryptic updates, with the no systmd deleted, now after a reload, only three packages to update, ones that make sense. I am celebrating >101 days uptime. So many updates over the past months, maybe time to reboot, just to ensure stability through a reboot cy...

Re: MX repos, what should the antix URI be?

Thanks tim,

This is wierd, after reloading, now hundreds of new updates available, all instead of being say cups 2.2.1-8+deb9u1, everything is like 2.21-8.0nosystemd1

What is all this 0nosystemd1 stuff?

MX repos, what should the antix URI be?

Synaptic, upon reloading the repositories, says The repository 'http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch Release' does no longer have a Release file. So what should the URI be for the MX 17.1 antiX repo be? Should I enter this into synaptic? deb http://iso.mxrepo.com/antix/stretch/ stretch main no...

Re: Suspend, Hibernate, Shutdown, or Stay Running?

Suspend to RAM. For me it is the obvious choice. Zero power at the wall, or so my meter says, there must be enough to keep the RAM alive, but disks and fans are off. Yet, I hit a key, and the music starts playing in 4 seconds, and the desk-top is fully functioning in a total of 7 or 8 seconds. Getti...
