Re: How to install MX in multiboot with separate swap, tmp partitions

Its possible to have separate swap partitions anyway without LVM, because each swap partition has its own UUID and such. This UUID would be reflected in the fstab for the swap, so other distros shouldn't even touch each others' swap partitions by default. We ended up fixing the installer so that you...

Re: How to install MX in multiboot with separate swap, tmp partitions

If you use hibernation then maybe there's a reason to separate swaps, but with Linux I'm not sure how that works. I presume a distro would be able to recognise its own swap based off the UUID of the swap partition. But if you have enough RAM (4GB or more) and typical office style workload, and have ...

Re: How to install MX in multiboot with separate swap, tmp partitions

The LVM is to isolate these 3 partitions so another Lx OS doesn't use them ... esoecially swap, as any Lx OS will automatically recognize swap and mount it for its own. So far, out of the three LVM, I have /var and /tmp automounted, I can see them and I find them in Fstab, Only /mapper/swap is not ...

Re: How to install MX in multiboot with separate swap, tmp partitions

Originally the installer did not support even using existing LVM containers, so there were some tunables added for encryption to compensate for this. Once the ability to use existing LVM containers were added, the advanced encryption settings page was removed because you can now create the volume ho...

Re: About to give-up and move to uBunto Studio

Out of a list of 6, I picked up AVL-MX Dual boot with Win10, but AVL-MX will not be my only Lx installed (Still fighting against myself not to install Suse) Problem is that I've always separated /var; Swap; /Tmp, but if I do so on 2 linux, they will overlap or cross each other, so I need these part...

Re: What killer feature(s) would the MX devs love to implement?

Where do I start? Fine-grained window and decoration metrics and colour scheme support, as was possible on Windows 7 and earlier. 3D style/skeumorphic themes and icons, not like the boring flat icons and boring flat borders of today. UAC-style Sudo prompt that can't be tampered with by applications ...

The boot item is still there when booted from the live media (DVD/ISO/USB), called Memory Test.

Re: A Cross-Distro Partnership/Alliance

Hi John, As someone who works a lot on the MX/antiX Linux installer and a bunch of other Qt apps within MX Linux, I echo Adrian's sentiment above. Linux has a serious fragmentation issue, with people going at each other's throats over stuff like how to display graphics on the screen and how to start...
