Re: What killer feature(s) would the MX devs love to implement?

siamhie asqwerth I'm clearly in over my head here, but I think there are numerous issues associated with the fundamental design of Wayland vs. x11 (differences) that need to be dealt with. Some are easy, some I'm certain are difficult. I personally have found that (currently) Wayland makes it reall...

Re: What killer feature(s) would the MX devs love to implement?

siamhie I'm almost certain Wayland basically assumes systemd. The stuff I have read (granted not a huge amount) seems to indicate significant problems with non-systemd inits. As a person who these days prefers systemd over the other inits, given my confusion of window managers, I personally would i...

Re: What killer feature(s) would the MX devs love to implement?

Also not a dev, but I have wished for years that there was an MX minimal version that supported the choices of Debian Test and Unstable EDIT: and let me add in my waxing: it would be nice if the version allowed init choice(s) as well. I believe that type of test bed would allow a lot of pre-trial wo...

Re: Request MX-23: novelWriter (latest release) [Solved]

Are you reluctant, for some reason, to use either a deb file, appimage or flatpak to obtain novel writing software? The deb file presumably gives what you want 'precisely' and now. This site provides you with the exact appimage, as well: https://novelwriter.io/ Flathub certainly offers a wealth of s...

Re: Systemd systemctl edit command SysVInit alternative?

FWIW. Incompatibility will always be an issue. There are simply too many moving parts, people's style preferences vary greatly, skill levels are incredibly uneven across the computing world. It has been thus during my entire 50+ year computing experience(s). My recommendation is always to try and fi...

Re: MXLinux 23 sysVinit related Wayland "challenges"/ problems.

@Senpai Thank you for the pointer. I hope it helps some folks here. I am using EndeavourOS most of the time and running tiny WMs, mostly. I have conducted extensive Wayland testing on my Vanilla Debian base with success (that's not to say I like it as much as x11). As an old guy with about 30 years ...

Re: Conky Not Working

FWIW conky does NOT require the use of Conky Manager. Conky Manager is supposed to make things simpler, often it does; but, not always. It never hurts to know where Conky help is located. These forums are excellent, as are those on Arch, BunsenLabs, Lilidog, Puppylinux among others. These sites are ...

Re: system stopped booting in sysVinit mode

NOT to start an argument but rather make a simple experiential point...

All 'that bloat' in systemd does [someimes?] perform useful functions. The more diverse my environments [hardware, distros, desktop, applications] become, the better I like systemd.

Re: Strange occurence with File Managers

If you are up to taking a backup before... you might try to detoxify your filenames and folders. There are probably many ways to take care of the issue but here's a guide (note:I have not tried this approach, I had to do it manually a couple of dozen years ago when I encountered something similar to...
