Re: MX 19.1 - problems and solutions
Thanks for the tip on using the profile manager in Mozilla product,s BC206. That will be helpful in the future so I don't need to mess about with profiles.ini files. Side note, I found another proble when I upgraded my laptop today: 8. MX 19 does not include the ecryptfs software previously found i...

Re: MX 19.1 - problems and solutions
Thanks asqwerth for the tip on using VirtualBox. I tried the "-style fusion" flag and it worked. VirtualBox is still ugly, placing black text on a bright white background, but at least it's not white font on a white background so I can see what I'm doing now. This is much better. I also ag...

MX 19.1 - problems and solutions
This past weekend I upgraded my MX Linux 17.1 box to MX 19.1. Well, I say "upgrade", but what I did was perform a fresh install of 19.1 on my root partition and simply kept my /home partition from the former install. The initial install of 19.1 went well and most of my desktop settings (ap...

Re: MX-19 Beta 2.1 Feedback
Great, thank you. I'm looking forward to the final release. Question: Will MX's Btrfs layout be compatible with Timeshift? I think it uses the Ubuntu-style layout and it would be a handy option to have under MX. good question. I don't really know what timeshift requires. According to the Timeshift ...

Re: MX-19 Beta 2.1 Feedback
I am giving the 2.1 Beta a whirl and so far it has been mostly positive. The only serious issue I've encountered so far is during the install process. If I choose to format my root partition with Btrfs the installer accepts this and then, when it begins formatting my partitions, it pops up an error...

Re: So ... PinePhone, what do we think?
I will probably get one, assuming it's easy to install UBports on it at launch, or buy the OS bundled with the phone. I've been running Ubuntu Touch on a Pro 5 for about three years and really like it. My phone's battery is starting to show its age, so I plan to replace it around the time the PinePh...

Re: Beep sound shut down
This may shed some light on the issue: https://superuser.com/questions/636533/debian-7-shutdown-beep and also https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=614893 Supposedly sysvinit was patched in 2018 and fixed this in version 2.92 but MX has version 2.88. If neither my first suggestion nor a...

Re: What init system do you use on MX, the default (sysVinit) or systemd?
As the upstream dev for sysvinit, it's nice to see lots of people still find it useful.
