Re: What services to disable or change the load or the boot order?

I want to make the system to load faster and to shutdown, restart faster either. I am not using disk encryprion. No antivirus. No rdp, phone or mail server or any server at all. Please look at these list of all services enabled/disabled and say what I should change or disable at all in order to acc...

Re: Do the devs have a wishlist for a new MX tool?

There is a 15 year old Ubuntu tool that never found its way into Debian. It does what it is supposed to do (in Ubuntu). It is a little bit clunky, but it is python3 now so it works in latest Ubuntu. I read somewhere that localization is different in Ubuntu compared to Debian, but I don't know if tha...

Re: Do the devs have a wishlist for a new MX tool?

The MX installer lacks separation between UI language and regional settings which is weird if you for example travel or live abroad. That + installing language/localization files for default applications (libre office, firefox, thunderbird...) if language other then en_US is selected at setup Ideal...

Re: Do the devs have a wishlist for a new MX tool?

SwampRabbit I'm sure you can strip out mint related translations from the application and package it, but the question I replied to was about a new MX tool. If MX devs are interested there will probably be a (significant) maintenance burden. Maybe cutting ties with upstream Mint and then keeping up...

Re: Do the devs have a wishlist for a new MX tool?

I think the question is more for users, what kind of new GUI MX tool would you like to see? What are you missing? The lack of a proper GUI application for localization was inherited from Debian and Linux Mint might be one of the few Debian based distros that has one. The MX installer lacks separati...

Re: Firefox or Chromium browser runs extremely slow recently

It seems to me that more than anything else, you are anxious to get this issue marked SOLVED. If you really insist, you can close it, but that does nothing to address the problem I (and apparently some others here) are seeing. I mean, perhaps it really is just the particular web sites I have opened...

Re: MX Package installer codebase

So the question is : Should the theme work in the .themes directory or should all themes go in the /usr/share/themes folder for them to work with all applications? This has always been the case with gtk desktops. If you want all your applications (including root applications) themed then the theme ...

Re: Firefox or Chromium browser runs extremely slow recently

Once again, running firefox 78 or so on devuan beowulf does not seem to gobble memory the same way I am seeing on MX-19. However, in fairness, I am running an equivalent memory snooping test with the same exact script I used on MX right now. I'll wait several hours and see if it is gobbling memory ...

Re: MX Package installer codebase

What is MX package installer written in for visual looks? GTK2 3 QT etc? The theme I am using makes it look like the old windows from the 80's. Just curious The Xfce edition of MX Linux uses gtk2 style for Qt applications. If your chosen theme in Xfce Settings Manager doesn't have a gtk2 version in...

Re: Firefox or Chromium browser runs extremely slow recently

OK, I'm not an expert but regarding init discussion: I used to be in favor of sysvinit and against systemd. I'm still against systemd. MX Linux has both and you can choose at run time. Tell me what other distro has two preconfigured init systems that you can choose between at run time? This is actua...
