Re: Mouse and keyboard froze after visited website had problem: [Solved]

Hi Charlie, Thanks - fortunately no MX partitions were compromised so all is well plus I've been taught a bit more. I'll mark this as solved now, cheers. I'm late to this party and this may not have any relevance to your initial problem/question, but I would strongly advise installing the uBlock Or...

Be aware that MX-19 reaches EOL in June 2024 after which it will receive no more updates.
That'll still give me several years. I ran M11 until about five years ago. :spinning:

Re: Yes, about all that old Windows 10 hardware.....

People didn't change their OS on their PC because for the longest time, besides maybe Vista, they didn't NEED to. Even the much maligned Vista, once you had the drivers for it and installed Service Pack 1, worked well, even if it was more heavy on the system requirements than XP. Again, you guys ar...

Re: Yes, about all that old Windows 10 hardware.....

I haven't "configured" anything on this MX19KDE load since I installed it, and even then it was all a point & click operation. Those of us who install our own OSs are a tiny sliver of the computing world. People buy a computer and run with what's presented to them. I've converted a han...

Re: videodownloadhelper--companion app--update-not in pkg installer

thanks timkb4cq. well, I have the .bz2 file in my downloads folder, which is in my data folder, not in a firefox location. I did extract, now I have the .bz2 file and another file, vdhcoapp-2.0.10. This second file contains a number of files, one of them a vdhcoapp executable. I then went to xfce t...

Re: Public Library Censorship of websites

This city's Public Library system offers free internet access via WiFi. However, it appears that the library's IT section categorically denies access to any website associated with Freeware/Shareware to comply with city policy. This includes Sourceforge.net. Tor won't work either. Suggestions for g...

Re: Least naggy antivirus for Win 11 [Solved]

I'm late to this thread and it looks like the OP has made his decision, but I'll throw this out in case it helps someone else. There was a time not too long ago when I had a good side gig cleaning up infected Windows computers and was darn good at it (if I say so myself). Yes, McAfee is bad. It, lik...

Re: 1 Jan 2024 Distrowatch Weekly

Your link is referring to an October outage. Still down for me now. Yep - I'm not sure that it was down since then for me, but it's been quite some time - another reason why I asked here. New outage for me just today. Been fine up until this morning. I have to believe something expired at years end.
