Re: MX-14.2 downloads

When it reads "stalled" and idle, a stop-and-re-start of Transmission is the only thing I know to do. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not.

Re: Post your hardware specs.

Wikipedia: lm_sensors (Linux-monitoring sensors), is a free open source software-tool for Linux that provides tools and drivers for monitoring temperatures, voltage, humidity and fans. It can also detect chassis intrusions. Eh, doesn't sound like anything I need for this old desktop. Just another d...

Re: "Mepis Magic in a Lightweight Xfce Distro!" Review of MX

Thanks for the feedback! I don't really "review distros," since I really don't know how, and I've read so many bad ones that don't tell what I would want to know anyway. But I do love to share when I find something wonderful, and I just write about what's cool and why I like it (or dislike...

Re: MX-14 Review

Plymouth just slows things down...waaay down sometimes. Plymouth on a 'old machine' distro is counterproductive. Pardon my newbie-ish ignorance then, but if Plymouth slows everything down, how is it that Xubuntu boots up to a desktop in under 9 seconds on my old hardware? MX takes nearly 45 seconds...

Re: Status

It was the name and reputation of MEPIS that brought me to MX-14 in the first place. From what I had gathered, MEPIS had done the same thing Ubuntu had - making Debian "friendlier" - but without the drama, the rush to release, and the barrage of updates that break things, and built on Debi...

Re: Status

I would be very sorry to see Mepis go away, and I never knew it was "dying for all practical purposes" until I read it in this thread! My own MX-14 experience was just great, but I found that some of the "components" (I guess) that I was used to in Xubuntu are missing, and I had ...

Re: the go-to distro

I managed to install Compiz in MX-14 and the glitz is back, (and those buried useful features). It is surprising to me that Compz which has not been supported for some time works so well with MX-14. As delivered MX-14 is very, very good. And what is even better, since it is Debian based, can be &qu...

Re: MX-14 Review

Thanks for the corrections and advice. I have edited the post accordingly. I'm always open to correction, suggestions, and constructive commentary. I wouldn't be a very good student if I wasn't! Special gratitude and thanks to Anticapitalista and his team for this fantastic special edition of AntiX ...
