Re: what was the first linux distro you used

I played around with Mandrake with limited success before I found Mepis 3.4. Here was a Linux that booted live, everything actually worked without spending hours searching for drivers, had all the software preinstalled that I needed to be productive at work(including Planner, which I still use). Bee...

Check out the link in the blue welcome box at the top of the page. Some patched kernels are already available for 64 bit systems.

Re: copy dvd to HD playable

When I want to archive a dvd movie, I just open it with vlc, then when I'm past all the trailers I hit the record button. I get a nice .mpg file with very good resolution. If the .mpg file is too large for my needs, I use Handbrake to convert it to a different file format, like .m4v, which results i...

I'm still running M12 on my machines, too. This one on Wheezy, my others on debian 8.x. Still has that Mepis feel.

Re: Firefox Depends on Pulseaudio?

Are you starting Firefox with apulse, as in

Code: Select all
apulse firefox
?
doesn't work for me. I don't know if it matters, I am using M12 here.

Re: Firefox Depends on Pulseaudio?

Firefox requires pulseaudio since ver. 52, I think. I installed apulse, which allowed me to install 55.0.2 but when I load a page that has embedded youtube videos, firefox says I need pulseaudio to be installed for audio to work. I get around this by using Pale Moon or copy/pasting the url into anot...

Re: Is there any sofware which converts Text to Voice in Mx ??

I see I have Readplease and Readplease Plus installed in wine. I copy/paste text file into Readplease, grab the audio with Audacity or whatever sound editor you have installed.

Re: Is there any sofware which converts Text to Voice in Mx ??

I use a windows app called ReadPlease. It runs in wine very well--I've been using it for years. I think it is still out there for download. ReadPlease 2003 is the free version. Just google it.

Re: Can't make bootable Usb Stick (ISO tp USB)

I have used Unetbootin regularly with great sucess over the years, also used dd from the command line with equal success, so I thought I might try using both to see if it would work with Mint 18.x. Unetbootin will retrieve the .iso from the net if you want, but in this case it lists Mint up to 17, n...

Re: About Installing Android Os within MX ??

http://www.android-x86.org/releases/releasenote-7-1-rc1 I believe you will find the answer to your question here. I think the easiest way to do what you are looking to do is to download the .rpm and install it using alien. Or you can run it from a VM. I haven't played with android x86 since kit kat ...
