Re: LXQt and KDE respins - personal projects

Well I downloaded the KDE respin and installed it to a new ssd in my wife's laptop.(Toshiba c655) It took me a little while to remember the tweaks to get it to my liking, but WOW! it is fast! Apps like Libreoffice that took 10-12 seconds load in 2-3 seconds! And I have all the mx tools! I have alway...

Re: Issue with installing androidx 86 along mx

Well it has been a while since I played with Android x86. The version I have is 7.1-r1. I used the .iso, made a usb stick and it booted fine. I wasn't really too impressed with it, so I didn't try to install either alone or along side MX. If I was to try to install along side of MX, I would use the ...

Re: Issue with installing androidx 86 along mx

I'm not sure just exactly what you did. If you download the .iso image, just make a usb stick from it and boot to usb. My understanding about Alien is it is used to make a deb file from a .rpm file. Android_x86 is an operating system, not a linux application. Just go back and grab the .iso and burn ...

Re: LXQt and KDE respins - personal projects

Thanks, Adrian, for doing this. I have not had much luck trying to do this myself. I am waiting for the download to finish so I can try it out! I'll post back to let you know how it runs on my test machines. Thanks again!

Re: Capture video from camcorder

I use vlc to record anything I can view. To use the record button, go to View>Advanced Controls and click the box. Very useful for editing out the trailers, etc. and get down to the actual movie.

Re: what was the first linux distro you used

I played around with Mandrake with limited success before I found Mepis 3.4. Here was a Linux that booted live, everything actually worked without spending hours searching for drivers, had all the software preinstalled that I needed to be productive at work(including Planner, which I still use). Bee...

Check out the link in the blue welcome box at the top of the page. Some patched kernels are already available for 64 bit systems.

Re: copy dvd to HD playable

When I want to archive a dvd movie, I just open it with vlc, then when I'm past all the trailers I hit the record button. I get a nice .mpg file with very good resolution. If the .mpg file is too large for my needs, I use Handbrake to convert it to a different file format, like .m4v, which results i...

Re: Old Mepis Resurected

I'm still running M12 on my machines, too. This one on Wheezy, my others on debian 8.x. Still has that Mepis feel.

Re: Firefox Depends on Pulseaudio?

Are you starting Firefox with apulse, as in

Code: Select all
apulse firefox
?
doesn't work for me. I don't know if it matters, I am using M12 here.
