Bug Report - translation

#1 Post by Wallon »

Dear dolphin_oracle,

It's me (again)

Thank you very much for all the hard work you put into updating the translations. I received the updates today and it's fantastic.

I just checked the *.mo files for the 3 languages in French.

Only one file is missing for all 3 languages.
It is the file "conky-manager2.mo" which is only present for [fr_FR]. As this file does not exist in [fr], the 2 other languages do not receive any translation. I did not find this file in Transifex. Maybe it comes from the Conky package?

Take your time as you have already done a lot of work.

Best regards,
Wallon

Re: Report bug - translation

Dear dolphin_oracle,

I'm not sure but the translations are in English for the mx-network-assistant package instead of French.

On the github site, I think it is the translations of the "Date and time" package that are in the mx-network-assistant package.

Sorry if I'm wrong but I'm trying to find the origin of the problems in the translations.

Thanks again for your precious help.

Best regards,
Wallon

thanks I will check datetime and network-assistant. possibly I messed up a configuration file.

I'm not sure where conky-manager's source comes from. I don't think we have translations set up for that one in project.

Dear dolphin_oracle,

Take it easy, you don't have to work yourself to death!

I found something else very strange with MX Tools.
Everything is good on the github site but everything is still in English!
I extracted from Transifex the 2 French versions [fr] and [fr_BE].
I compiled the 2 *.ts files into 2 *.qm files.
I replaced the installed version [fr_Be] by the new compiled file [fr_BE] in the directory ~/usr/share/mx-tools/locale/
Everything remains in English.
I replaced the installed version [fr] with the new compiled file [fr].
I deleted the new compiled version [fr_BE] to use the new compiled version [fr].
Everything remains in English.
I copied the new compiled version [fr] to [fr_BE].
Everything is still in English.
It looks like a script is missing in the MX Tools program to read the *.qm file.
Here is a screenshot of MX Tools, points 1 to 7 (in red) have been translated for a long time in Transifex and I didn't understand why the translations didn't pass.

I don't have enough skills to find the origin of this bug.

Best regards,
Wallon

Code: Select all

LANG=es mx-tools

(process:4100): Gtk-WARNING **: 13:19:51.575: Locale not supported by C library.

	Using the fallback 'C' locale.

mx-tools version: 21.11
LANG needs format ll_RR.UTF-8 ( ll_RR.utf8 may also work)
E.g. LANG=es_ES.UTF-8 or LANG=fr_BE.UTF-8
otherwise it will be ignored or regarded as invalid and fallback is used.

ISTM, the generated, ts/qm files do have the translation context not as it should be:
The actual non-working versions in ts/qm file start like,

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE TS>
<TS version="2.1" language="fr_FR">
<context>
    <name>mxtools</name>
adjusting the translation context to "MainWindow" like this

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE TS>
<TS version="2.1" language="fr_FR">
<context>
    <name>MainWindow</name>
Checked the same issue for German locale de_DE.UTF-8, de_AT.UTF-8 and de_CH.UTF-8 .
After adjusting context, the available stings get translated.
Also fallback works which means for
LANG=fr_CH.UTF-8 mx-tools
or
LANG=fr_CA.UTF-8 mx-tools
shows translated:
fr_CA_mx-tools.jpg

Quickly checking all others mx*tools, with

Code: Select all

for QM in */locale/*_fr.qm; do echo "${QM##*/} : $(lconvert -i ${QM} -of ts | grep -m1 -F '<name>')"; done
bash-config_fr.qm :
formatusb_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
gazelle-installer_fr.qm :     <name>MInstall</name>
job-scheduler_fr.qm :     <name>VariableEdit</name>
mx-boot-options_fr.qm :     <name>CustomDialog</name>
mx-boot-repair_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-cleanup_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-codecs_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-conky_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-datetime_fr.qm :     <name>MXDateTime</name>
mx-live-usb-maker_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-menu-editor_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-network-assistant_fr.qm :     <name>MXDateTime</name>
mx-packageinstaller_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-remastercc_fr.qm :     <name>mxremastercc</name>
mx-repo-manager_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-samba-config_fr.qm :     <name>EditShare</name>
mx-select-sound_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-snapshot_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
mx-system-sounds_fr.qm :     <name>mxsystemsounds</name>
mx-tools_fr.qm :     <name>mxtools</name>
mx-tweak_fr.qm :     <name>brightness_small</name>
mx-user_fr.qm :     <name>MEConfig</name>
mx-welcome_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
quick-system-info-gui_fr.qm :     <name>MainWindow</name>
system-keyboard-qt_fr.qm :     <name>Window</name>
some of those like mx-remastercc, maybe also mx-system-sounds
appear to have a similar issue like mx-tools.
Adjusting translation context in mx-remastercc from
<name>mxremastercc</name>
to
<name>MainWindow</name>
does indeed fix the translation issue here also.
So, I guess, somehow within the tools after fetching translation from transifex
and generating the qm-files may have injected/replaced the wrong translation context.
