I have MX21 Xfce as my main desktop environment running. I added the Mate desktop to it and can boot and use it without hardly any issues. The issue is with Caja not play the preview on music files when hovering the mouse over the music file icon. The arrow on the icon does present itself on the icon but Caja will not preview it even though in the preferences it is set to allow previewing. I can open the file and play it through any player I have installed but can not preview the file. I have noticed that Caja will preview the music files when in a "native" Mate desktop distro such as Mint or PCLinuxOS. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd noticed this earlier this week and put it on the list to look up ... just done a search and fixed it! Install gstreamer1.0-tools and it'll play. :-)

Just curious, I remember a file manager that allowed this BEFORE MATE DESKTOP and as such modern Linux.. Does anyone know it?You hovered your mouse cursor over the file and it previewed only wav files not mp3s. So pictures, text files and wav files, and I think, avi files. Yes, it sounds quite dated but this thread sparked my memories of such a file manager or extension back in the early 2000s/late 90s..
