Is it something wrong in repositories ?

#1 Post by abhidesh128 »

I just checked for updates for my system, the APT database updated correctly. I am using the main MX repo. (mxrepo.com)

But when I try to install the updates, the updater window throws an error like this :

Code: Select all

full upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be upgraded:
   mx-installer (21.9.02mx19 => 21.9.04mx19)
   mx-snapshot (21.8 => 21.9)
2 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 430 kB/671 kB of archives.
After this operation, 15.4 kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] y

E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?

full upgrade complete (or was canceled)

this terminal window can now be closed (press any key to close)

Something is probably wrong here. At least for the specific packages in the code pasted above.

Just deselect the one that is giving the error, the other will upgrade. We'll have to wait till the prob gets sorted, nothing we can do other than wait. Maybe changing the repo source using MX Repo Manager might help, I haven't tried that. Using the same here.

Try these commands in a terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade

As you said, I went to synaptic and deselected the one that was giving 404 error. The other was updated successfully. I will check for the error afterwards. If the issue does not resolve, I will update here.

It cannot update if a file isn't there.

Update is broken, not working. I click on the icon, enter my password and it goes through what it looks like updating but it doesn't. I still says I have updates.
I am command line illiterate. I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.

I ran both those updates on both of my laptops this morning without any problems, but I have received that error message several times in the past. When I do get that response here's what I do to rectify it:

First, launch Synaptic and then click on Edit --> Reload Package Information and when that completes, try to run the updates again. Usually that's enough to solve the problem.

--but--
Sometimes it's necessary to use Repo Manager in MX Tools to choose a new lead repository as well.

FWIW, I currently use the repository in Salt Lake City, Utah
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
Aspire V5-571; CPU Intel I3; 500 GB SSD; Intel 2nd Gen Graphics; 8 GB Ram
Aspire XC-866; i3-9100; UHD 630; 8 GB ram; 1TB HDD

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Guess which one I use that is not working ;)

For kicks just changed to NL-Alblasserdam. Same thing.

Let's chill a bit. There's an error somewhere on the server, people who are responsible of that have been notified, nothing bad will happen if you don't upgrade that specific problem right now, just monitor this thread of try an "apt update" later today or tomorrow, it should be fixed by then. (BTW mx-snapshot will actually have a newer version than that, I already pushed a 21.9.01 version, so you won't even get that 21.9)
