Hang

#1

Post by ABR » Mon Jan 14, 2019 11:18 am

When the computer hangs I am not able to do anything and the only option I am left is with powering off the device. Like in Windows I was able to open task manager in any condition and kill the not responding apps but I am not able to open terminal or task manager when it gets stuck.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Could you provide some Quick Info on your computer: make, model, OS, kernel, etc.

You can use the Menu button > MX Tools > Quick System Info (which is copied automatically to the clipboard)
then paste it between the code tags with the [< / >] button.

Please explain what were you doing at the time, what apps were open, which app seemed to lock up, etc.

No need to paste it between the tags, the system info copies everything automatically and adds those code tags to boot.

All a user needs to do here is click paste :)

This is just a stab in the dark: if you are using Chrome as your browser, access chrome's settings and turn off hardware acceleration.

You can do the same thing in Linux because there is a Task Manger in MX Linux. If it's just a program freeze you can also hit Ctrl Alt Esc at the same time which will open Xkill which you will see and X appear. Move the X onto what program is frozen and left click the mouse which will force shutdown of that program.
I am command line illiterate.

@Eadwine_Rose,

That's neat.
I haven't actually used it, :( and was misled by the text that said,
"Report copied to system clipboard"

Wow, it really does! Some serious legerdemain!

i have a T530 with essentially the same hardware.

Are you running off the SSD or off the 32GB MMC device?

also, are you sure your fans are working?
