Did it work? You can also download and run a benchmark like Unigine Valley to see if the framerate's much higher like it should be.

My laptop has an LED that changes from blue to red when the Nvidia card is powered up, but of course, you're looking for stats. I wonder if there's some widget that can show the Nvidia card's usage, or a Conky...I think there are for Cinnamon, which I also have installed to test the 3.8 backport.
