how can I use this external webcam--old Creative from XP [solved]days
Re: how can I use this external webcam--old Creative from XP days
Just look for a cheapo webcam on Amazon or similar site. Almost all support Linux, bonus if the advertising or answered questions confirm Linux compatibility.

According to this post by Chris Titus it can be made to work well:
https://www.christitus.com/logitech-c920-linux-driver/
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
Aspire V5-571; CPU Intel I3; 500 GB SSD; Intel 2nd Gen Graphics; 8 GB Ram
Aspire XC-866; i3-9100; UHD 630; 8 GB ram; 1TB HDD
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

tnx j2mcgreg for chris titus material. I watched his video. one thing: he turns off autofocus to improve the picture. but I thought autofocus, which you are paying more for, actually is meant to improve the picture. Actually, I don't like having to go to the command line nor do like having to write (actually, to copy someone elses!) batch file (as the settings changes are lost with each reboot otherwise). I would go with the cheaper webcam, just concerned about too dark a picture. btw, I played with the ring around the lens of my ancient creative webcam and now, though I still get "reception", I no longer see myself. I guess I will buy the cheaper logitech. oh, another question: can I use the app in mx that works with my old webcam also with the cheap logitech device?

I have a friend that uses the C270 with Zoom and with guvcview and it works fine with both.

tnx j2.....: I will just get the c270. If I ever "broadcast" on the internet (fat chance) I would just upgrade to something fancy. case closed!
