None of the sites are perfect and each offers something the others do not. So I go where the data is..

Kind of late... dna data has been in the cloud for years.

@Handy -- I was never able to get my Personal Ancestral File to work in wine because I kept getting weird character sets indicating that I was having some kind of unicode issue. I looked and looked and saw reference somewhere that I needed the "all languages" edition of PAF in order to get past that problem. I don't suppose you have a link where that version is available?
Perhaps its comes as part of the cheap paid for add-on. Where you get that I don't know. Perhaps contacting the Latter-day Saints on-line may provide the answers?
DNA was harvested by law enforcement agencies on GEDmatch.com and they put up a warning and explained how to delete your dna info from their site.
I didn't learn a great deal from my dna results at Ancestry. I was mostly curious to see if I was right in my own estimates, and I was extremely close. It also confirmed tons of family connections and I learned a few things.
The real danger with DNA, one that plays out daily, is people finding out that their relatives are not relatives, or about extra relatives they never heard about. Lots of moms and grandmas having to explain things like why the kids are not related to their dad or grandpa, and no few dads and grandpas having to explain things as well when new family members show up unexpectedly.

Courts can and do use dna results from genealogy sites. https://www.wired.com/story/a-murder-tr ... logy-site/
The sites that want your dna seems scandalous anyway. Especially the part about sharing it with third parties. It reminds me of the trend of prison tats, and the fact they're a great way to be identified by the authorities.
True freedom is never asking the question; Am I free?

I have to say that I find such things as just part of the entertainment. People will be people... and people do such things. The strangeness, to me, is that so many people believe they come from people who didn't behave like people.

It's creating lots of awkward situations and conversations. People were indeed people, but in some cases it might be better leaving things be and not upending entire families. Very tough when people find out their dad is not really their dad, but an uncle was their dad--real conversation on Reddit recently--or other shocking surprises.
One should be forewarned that there could be some serious surprises in their dna results.
