I didn't learn a great deal from my dna results at Ancestry. I was mostly curious to see if I was right in my own estimates, and I was extremely close. It also confirmed tons of family connections and I learned a few things.
The real danger with DNA, one that plays out daily, is people finding out that their relatives are not relatives, or about extra relatives they never heard about. Lots of moms and grandmas having to explain things like why the kids are not related to their dad or grandpa, and no few dads and grandpas having to explain things as well when new family members show up unexpectedly.
I have to say that I find such things as just part of the entertainment. People will be people... and people do such things. It's creating lots of awkward situations and conversations. People were indeed people, but in some cases it might be better leaving things be and not upending entire families. Very tough when people find out their dad is not really their dad, but an uncle was their dad--real conversation on Reddit recently--or other shocking surprises.
