What is the hardware? On some machines, like Acer laptops, you have to add our grub.efi file to the list of trusted boot files in the computer's setup options (BIOS).
But since you're getting GRUB, that's not the problem. Have you tried any of the boot options shown at the bottom?

He's installed it, so no options at the bottom. I don't understand what he is seeing exactly

How? I mean what options have you selected, esp. during slection of /root, /boot /home
and for GRUB installation MBR / PBR or ESP?
OK, a grub message like "you have to load the kernel first" is a bit misleading.29@-@79pjen wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 1:03 pm I tried/ boot, but it seems that i have to load the kernel. I am a bloody beginner, help me please!
It just tells you something is wrong with your install.
Suggest you boot from LiveUSB and shows some system information.
So lets start with this one:
Menu -> Quick System Info
And we go from here.

Re: How can I load the Kernel amd where is it?
Hi all,
I think I have the same issue as the OP.
I have recently downloaded MXLinux and created a live USB.
It runs perfectly OK on my main desktop system - I've run the live system and done a full trial install on an old hard disk - all OK (just waiting for a disk upgrade before doing a final install) but when I try the live USB on my old laptop (HP255 G1) I get an error
Before getting into GRUB I get
"error: unknown filessystem"
"error: you have to load the kernel first."
"Press any key to continue . . ."
pressing any key takes me into GRUB - I then get the standard options that work OK when I run on the desktop
"MX-18.3 x64 (May 26, 2019)"
"MX-18.3 x64 Customize boot . . . . . ."
">>>> advanced options. . . . . . .. "
I can get into a command line but as a relative novice I have no idea what to enter. Help please!

Re: How can I load the Kernel amd where is it?
That's probably the a known issue with the current UEFI boot from USB . When USB is not discovered as the first "hd0" drive it fails, and probably loads the grub-menu from the installed hd instead.
You might try to plugout any USBstick, which might have been discovered as hd0 and leave only the MXLive usb plugged in.
Alternatively, you can disable UEFI and enable legacy and boot from the stick. There are some other tricks on the Grub menu to reset the correct root and prefix variables ...
