Shutdown and Restart Hangs
Shutdown and Restart Hangs
Hi all,
I am now "using" MX-18.3_x64 for about a month now but have a huge problem.
When I want to shut down or reboot my Laptop it hangs nearly every time. It is a Clevo. Don't know which exactly. If this plays a role I will look it up.
It started when I tried to mount a NFS drive in /etc/fstab. I immediatly removed my mount from /etc/fstab, but the shutdown problem still remains.
I spotted that it hangs on a wireless-tools script somewhere in /etc/networking.
After I deleted it my system did a few shutdowns, but now hangs on the last message before shutdown (<info> system shuts down now) or from time to time on smbd script or other scripts.
Could it be that there is somewhere an infinite loop which prevents my system from shutting down?
How can I track the shutdown process even better?
Hope I must not switch the distro

Re: Shutdown and Restart Hangs
Perhaps try to deactivate/disable any of those added scripts/apps you are starting.
A good candidate for not shutting down properly (sometimes) might be teamviewer daemon. If you don't use teamviewer every day consider to disable the daemon running all the time - and only enable when you need to.
Also have look into mx-tweak ... -> Intel ( don't remember the exact name of that tweak right now )
and this: /etc/modprobe.d/hang-on-shutdown.conf
Gigabyte Z77M-D3H, Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2 (Quad core), 32GB RAM,
GeForce GTX 770, Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB, Seagate Barracuda 4TB
GeForce GTX 770, Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB, Seagate Barracuda 4TB
Re: Shutdown and Restart Hangs
now I uninstalled teamviewer, checked that mx-tweak Intel Driver checkbox and uncommented both lines in /etc/modprobe.d/hang-on-shutdown.conf like described.
Still it hangs on shutdown. What else could I try?

Re: Shutdown and Restart Hangs
if it started with an NFS mount, could you post
and
you also mentioned that you deleted a script? what script did you delete?

Re: Shutdown and Restart Hangs
Add this boot option the line starting with linux by editing the Grub-menu (press "e" for edit):
Code: Select all
nouveau.modeset=0

Re: Shutdown and Restart Hangs
The change made manually when editing the GRUB menu is only temporary.
Does it work? Does it stop the shutdown hanger?
