antiX-19-b1-full and tsplash tests needed.
Could those of you running live versions of antiX-19-b1-full please test out our tsplash option.
Simply, at live boot menu, change splash=v to splasht=f or splasht=s or splasht=va
Post your comments on the splash screen

for me, splasht=va is the most compelling, with the cycling text saying what's going on. splasht=s and splasht=f look the same, with the progress bar but no cycling text.

The "s" and "f" options do the same thing. They enable fbcondecor (console backgrounds) near the end of the boot process. These would already be enabled if "splash=v" was also given.

Re: antiX-19-b1-full and tsplash tests needed.
I tested the 64-bit version on my old AMD desktop. I still have the issue of slim not starting at boot on the live USB. I tried the various splash options, no difference.
I went ahead and installed it to a spare hard drive, using automatic partitioning on the entire disk, no encryption. I forgot to time the installation, but it was FAST! Maybe five or six minutes total. This is on a machine with only USB2, installing to a spinner not an SSD. Nothing crashed, errored out or went wrong during the installation:
I had unselected the auto-reboot so I could copy the console text above to a file, then did a manual reboot via the menu and it hung at shutting down the power-saving features so I had to do a hard reboot (pulling out the power cord.)
When I rebooted into antiX 19b1 I no longer got the three-minute black screen of death: booting and logging in worked as expected. So whatever is wrong with antiX 19 vs. this PC, it's an issue only when booting the live USB installation medium.
I opened a terminal and did a sudo apt update (after running the repo manager and checking what repositories it had selected for me) and this is what I got:
When I ping mirror.freedif.org it returns
I'll put that hard drive back in and test some of the splash screen parameters tomorrow or Sunday, and also test the 32-bit version of b1 on my netbook.

Re: antiX-19-b1-full and tsplash tests needed.
I just tested "splasht=f" on B1 32 bits on virtual box- the boot process looks way better for non techie users.
Everything looks simpler. One of these options should be the standard for antiX 19...
"splash=v" probably should be used only for debugging any problems. I know even when the system boots fine, there may be some precious information displayed in the "normal" boot sequence (for example- when it takes too long- it happened to me- antiX 17.X keeps looking for some file system I never used, for some 40 seconds, at boot time, then boots normaly) . But, if we are trying to "sell" antiX to Windows 7 refugees, for example, the first thing they see when they try the distro should not be a scary and seemingly incomprehensible string of "unneeded" information. If a newbie user tries to boot and, for example, gets dropped to the cli, probably nothing they see in the boot sequence will help them. They either give up on the distro or come to the forum, were someone advises to try another splash sequence and take a picture of the info or writing it down and post it all in the forum...
Another "small" but much needed face lift in my favorite OS...

That's work here: antiX-19.b1_386-full, with splasht=f , on virtualbox

Re: antiX-19-b1-full and tsplash tests needed.
The options work for me under QEMU/KVM but the screen flashes on & off while it is loading.
There's no flashing if tested on the bare metal (but my E485 isn't supported by the kernel so I can't load the desktop).
I prefer the va option, the shortcuts to return to standard booting are useful.

Re: antiX-19-b1-full and tsplash tests needed.
Just tested 32-bit version briefly on my netbook:
splasht=f and splasht=s look identical. I prefer splasht=va as it shows a bit of the boot progress at a high level, so the user can see that something's happening but without the usual big bunch of boot process messages.
Installation (automatic, entire disk, no encryption) took 5 minutes 9 seconds.
I found conman very easy to use to connect using my wifi: disable wired, enable wifi, click on my router's SSID, enter the password. Definite improvement over wicd and a lot easier to use. antiX19b1 seems to run faster than antiX 17.4 on the same machine.
Further testing in the next few days including the assembly-line installation.

Re: antiX-19-b1-full and tsplash tests needed.
Testing the 32-bit version as a regular user, just doing things on the computer. My observations after using the beta for an hour or two:
I enabled Preferences/Task Bar/TaskBarShowNetStatus then logged out and back in. Nothing changed on the task bar. There's no wifi status icon, just Menu, Show Desktop, workspace switcher, speaker icon, battery indicator and the clock. This is using the stock desktop. I have verified that TaskBarShowNetStatus is enabled/selected (there's the small black diamond next to it.) It just doesn't seem to work. Just for fun I disabled TaskBarShowClock then right-clicked on the taskbar and selected Refresh, and the clock was still there. Maybe I just don't understand how this taskbar works?
The date and time were incorrect. I confirmed that the settings were correct, rebooted and fund them wrong in my BIOS. This may not have anything to do with antiX, it may be just this computer. FYI it doesn't retain BIOS settings if I unplug the AC power supply so I always leave it plugged in.
In Firefox, Preferences/Search/Find More Search Engines goes to startpage.com's main search page. Expected behavior is to be taken to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search-tools/ where additional search engines for FF can be installed, including StartPage.
I ran the speaker test and have no sound. Again, may not be an antiX issue, the internal speakers in this piece of junk may have stopped working. I will try to verify later by booting another distro's live USB then edit this post with the results.
I saved my text document containing the above notes to my desktop but that document's icon doesn't appear on the desktop even after logging out and in. (Also the taskbar's clock is still there, and there's no network icon.) The only desktop icons are Files and help.
