On Ubuntu I am used to to installing
icedtea-plugin
to be able to run jnlp files. When trying to install icedtea-plugin on MX Linux apt says there is no installation candidate and suggest that I instead install
icedtea-netx-common
I tried this - but after installation Firefox will still not open jnlp files.
Thanks for all help!

Can't install icedtea-plugin
Re: Can't install icedtea-plugin
After installing the icedtea packages using MX installer, I downloaded the .jnlp file and ran the following command from the terminal.
javaws --jnlp somefile.jnlp
javaws --jnlp somefile.jnlp
