A general question: The liquorix kernel does not upgrade automatically. iam on 5.0.0-4.
When does it make sense to upgrade manually? And is there anyplace o see - in plain english, what the changes are in new versions?
Thanks a lot. its working great on my aging thinkpad w520/x230.,

Cool! Anti may want to add it to the antiX repos for 5.0 kernels, too. Nvidia may have given up on the 304xx drivers--at least Arch isn't even providing those any longer.

KoO wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2019 10:36 pm Thanks Stevo I have uninstall 5.0.7. for some reason won't go to the desktop after ddm-mx -i nvidia. Will say with 5.0.6 for now.. Awesome Sound (only thing is using mvp a small 4mm opaque bar at the top of the screen not even worth worrying about really)
Still running 410.104 from Deb.

anticapitalista Any hope uploading the 390.116 to antiX repo (No biggie if not). Many repo's in the antiX list not even working. Been deleting them from the list. (saying with sgfxi)

Thanks
Did you also install the 5.0-6 (5.0.0-7.1) Liquorix kernel headers? If you have module-assistant installed and the repo with the headers enabled, "sudo m-a prepare" will automatically get them if you're running the kernel.
Well don't ask me how.

Reinstalled Liquorix 5.0.0-7.1 from the MX test repo with the header as I did the first time. Then rebooted I had 410.104 from deb now removed from the server. With MX test repo still on after (ddm-mx -i nvidia) it install the MX of 410.104 instead. Just ended up at the command line again just would not boot to desktop.

With the 410.104 deb no longer on server had no choice but to use the MX version of the driver. No matter what I did would not go to the desktop.

So then with only one option left = sgfxi drop to su installed 418.43 rebooted straight to the logon screen. :spinning:

I have tested everything I can, all is working as it should music awesome sound, movies , youtube. Also can not find one broken package.. I'm Staying Right Here

5.0.0-6.1 is your obs version from opensuse
5.0.0-7.1 is your MX test version

Sid has a newer version of the 304xx legacy drivers that may fix the builds on the 5.0 kernel, so I'll try that backport.

Stevo

I will be sticking to the nvidia proprietary driver. I know it is non-free but so was my video card non-free.

Thanks for your Great work.

nvidia module install fails for 5.0.x series. Here is the make.log for 5.0.0-5.1-liquorix-amd64.

Code: Select all

$ apt policy nvidia-driver
nvidia-driver:
  Installed: 390.87-8~deb9u1
  Candidate: 390.87-8~deb9u1
  Version table:
 *** 390.87-8~deb9u1 500
        500 https://xxxyyyzzz/debian stretch/non-free amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Nope, I'm not using gcc7/8 and rather using "gcc version 6.3.0 20170516 (Debian 6.3.0-18+deb9u1)" from the stable repo.

Yes, we know that 390.87 doesn't build on 5.0 kernels, but nvidia-legacy-390xx 390.116 in our main repo does. The MX Nvidia installer doesn't account for these things, since the official kernel is still 4.19, and things are changing quickly with the Nvidia drivers.

I still had to adapt and add the Arch AUR patch to get the Sid nvidia-legacy-304xx driver to build on 5.0 kernels, but it's on its way to the test repo now. If it works, antiX should also be interested in the patched version. I can build it now, but don't have the hardware to test it.

I can test it, if you're interested.

BTW GPU info. in case if you need it.

I'm also sending the Nvidia 340xx legacy drivers to the test repo which are patched to build on 5.0 kernels. The 390xx legacy drivers in main will also build on these kernels, for those that can't use the 410.104 in the test repo, or or still using 32-bit.
Patched Nvidia 340xx legacy drivers build with no problem, even with newest liquorix 5.0-7~mx17+1
