We've now updated to the latest 2.10.8 release in the test repository! This should also bring babl 0.1.58 and gegl 0.4.12 library upgrades that it requires.

We now have the latest Gimp 2.10.10 in the test repository.

It required a small update of GTK 2 from 2.24.31 to 2.24.32, but that seems to be quite stable and may even fix bugs. It also needed an update of libpoppler, but that uses versioned libraries, so the standard Stretch version will remain installed for programs that need it.

Release highlights:
  • Line art detection in the Bucket Fill tool for comic artists
  • Various usability improvements in transformation tools
  • Sample Merged option added to the Heal tool and fixed in the Clone tool
  • Parametric brushes now have 32-bit per channel precision
  • Easier brush and pattern creation workflow
  • On-canvas layer selection
  • Faster saving/exporting and layer groups rendering
  • Initial DDS support
  • Many improvements in GEGL, the image processing engine
Please let us know how it installs and runs if you try it out. Thanks!

It installed just fine over here. Haven't worked with it yet, but I did start it and no weird things there.

Have been using GIMP for several hours a day recovering documents from the 1930's- 1950's for a digital archive. Upgraded to 2.10.10 yesterday and no apparent problems as yet. It is the same as MX - it just works. -
Backup: Dell9010, MX-19_B2, Win7, 120 SSD, WD 232GIB HD, 4GB RAM

MX-18.2 64bit. Also MX17, Kubuntu14.04 & Puppy 6.3.

I've also now managed to build it for Stretch and Buster users on the OBS, and that will also work for antiX users:

I just used it.. export as JPG caught me by surprise.. completely different window there. I thought I was saving as PNG for a bit, but nope. But I managed ;)

It looks like exporting JPG is faster in this new version 2.10.10 (as they say). Which is good for us ;)

I've installed 2.10.10 without problem and check very quick (basic functions). It's ok for now.
